Snowdrift Surprise: 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T

1970 Dodge Challenger RT

When Barn Finds reader Dustyn F. sent in the link to this 1970 Challenger R/T he mentioned that it seemed overpriced to him, but that perhaps it would be considered a deal in a place like Aspen, Colorado. Could be, but I have a feeling that the value will be determined by what is under the hood, not the fact that it has been living in a ski town. If it is a base 383 car, there is no way that it could be worth $18k in its current state. But, if there happens to be a Hemi or even the 440 Six Pack in there, it would be worth every single penny of that 18 grand! So, if you are a Mopar enthusiast, this one might be worth checking out. Find it here on craigslist where the seller claims that the car has been in the same family for the last 40 years. They also accuse their father of being too lazy to fix the car, but judging by the photos, it looks like it runs in the family. Thanks Dustyn for the tip!

I live 30 miles away I will take a look on Monday. We haven’t got a flake of snow left in Aspen. Dumb to leave covered in snow?

I talked to Daniel last night he is friends with one of my firefighter friends. It had the 6 pak and his dad sold it and the original auto trans. Replacing with a single 4 barrel and a 4 speed. He sold it 6 months ago guy sent the money and his dad wouldn’t sign the title and blew the deal but I guess it is signed now. Gonna kick the tires Monday. Says he has had 20 calls in 2 days. What a shame to leave in the elements. I’ve driven by this place 1000 timeso goes to show you need to check out EVERY barn

        Update?

I am in Vail now, wondering if this car is still in Aspen.

Yeah, that car has been sitting off Owl Creek in the same place since ’79. It’s a POS, it has been since I was in high school. I’ve tried to buy it since ’85, but Merle would never come off of it. Sad case. At least it’s not rusty, but the motor is a boat anchor (standing water in the intake in ’85), interior is junk, special parts are gone. I was a firefighter/medic up there too for years :) . I’d be curious if anyone knows what became of this one.

Where’s the Mopar guy? I want to hear about early unibody construction and torsion bars!

How can someone do this to such a car. I bought a ’70 Barracuda in the same condition. It’s really sad that people will keep their $2500.00 ’80’s Cadillac in the garage and keep their rare muscle machine out in the back yard for 20+ years. Regardless, the asking price is 10k too high unless it’s a hemi or 6-pak car.

I know these cars were just cars back in our days but how could someone just park a car like this out in a field or back yard to rust away because they didn’t want to work on it. I left my 65 GTO sit in a Kroger parking lot next to my parents house for a year with a blown engine because I didn’t have the cash to fix it, ended up selling it because someone stole the tires & wheels. Sold it for $100 in mint condition except blown engine and no tires and wheels in 1971.
