Solid Project: 1960 Chevrolet Corvette

1960 Chevrolet Corvette

Barn find cars come in all shapes, sizes, and conditions, and this 1960 Chevrolet Corvette needs work but isn’t all bad. The car is for sale with a current bid price of $11,100 with no reserve. It has a clear title and VIN listed. Currently, this Corvette resides in Venice, Florida which makes the yellow paint fitting for a place as sunny as Florida. If you are interested in making this your project, you can view more and bid on it here on eBay.

The seller notes that the engine is an original Corvette engine, but not the original engine to this car. It had a 283 cubic inch V8 that made 270 horsepower when new. It retains the original carburetors and manifold based on the casting code. It has the correct heads as well. Sadly, it does not run, but it does rotate by hand. Hopefully, there won’t be a lot of work that is needed to get it running.

There is not much in the listing regarding the interior. That is partially due to the fact that the really isn’t much of one. There are no seats, just seat frames, the steering wheel is off, and the dash is missing parts along with the door panels. One has to wonder about the transmission because there is no shift lever for the manual transmission that it is claimed to be equipped with. Maybe it has just been removed for the time being?

Something this car has going for it is the frame and suspension. There are photos of the underside of the car and it is in surprising condition considering it left in a barn. The seller notes that the body is in rough shape, and to look closely at the photos because it looks better in the photos than it does in person. I guess you have to appreciate the honesty. You don’t always find this kind of honesty these days.

Buff primer hides a lot of sins. Buyer beware, looker over good. if it stays low might be a good starting point for someone who wants a project. lot of big number pieces missing. Good luck to the new owner!

The seller is right, this is going to be a “major project” for someone.

It’s obvious from the pictures that the whole car has been disassembled, and that the dash, hood, trunk lid, exterior trim, etc are just sitting on the car, and lots of other parts are missing. The body looks pretty rough, and whoever shot the yellow primer on it, didn’t do the buyer any favors, since it will need to be stripped to get an idea just how bad the body is. I can’t say I’ve ever seen an early Corvette with a busted up dash, but if the buyer is a reader here, I do have a good used 60 dash top I’d sell. LOL

Wait till the buyer figures out the car has 2 left rear bumpers, and then finds out how hard 58-60 rear bumpers are to find, and how expensive they can be. From the position of the grill teeth, it looks like it may also have one 58-60 front bumper, and one 61-62.

It’s a worth wild project at this price but it will nickel and dime you to death!! It’s a shame it’s yellow in my opinion there are so many other colors to paint it!! When it’s done you have one of the best classic rides ever!!!

Nice project if your 15 yrs old and want to drive it some day. Don’t think $100k those cars are brand new with 1000 hrs of labor. But I do love a 1960 corvette I had one as a kid , I won’t tell you the price because it was yesterday . I understand we all had cheap beautiful cars back then. Good luck with this one looks like fun.

I’m missing something here. The seller says it’s been sectioned. Has the meaning of that changed over the years? Wouldn’t want to replace missing parts in a sectioned Corvette.
