MG was founded in the 1920s and has produced some really classy cars over the past hundred years. Probably best known for their small roadsters like this 1962 MGA, MGs are very collectible and have a fairly wide collector market. This particular car is an MKII and can be found here on eBay with a current bid of $7,300. Currently located in Crittenden, Kentucky, overall, this car looks pretty solid. If you’ve been looking for a vintage MG, this might be the perfect project for you. Take a look.
As with the rest of the car, it seems like the interior is mostly original, but in desperate need of attention. It’s hard to tell exactly what the story was, but the seller is also advertising another MG and this car may have been the parts car for that one. The mystery is that this car also comes with spare parts, so perhaps this is just an extra project, and the “parts car” donated to two cars. What do you think?
The ad says the engine “sounds very good” and the transmission seems functional. There is also a spare transmission and 1500cc engine block that goes with the sale. The seller also says that the brakes are not functional enough to make the car a driver and it will need to be winched onto a trailer.
As you can see, the driver’s door has seen some damage. The seller says a spare door also comes with the sale. There are also some rust issues that the seller identifies, but it doesn’t seem like they are too bad. Overall, this looks like a pretty good candidate for restoration or modification. With the spare parts and current condition, hopefully, this car will be cruising with the top down on a country road soon.

Every panel here requires metal work, including the frame rails and “A”& “B” pillars. Its an OK project if someone is “metal work handy”, but very costly tp have a shop do this. Dont spend $18,000 to have a $16,000 car. How do I know?, I’ve done approx 21 of these, retired last year, and gave way all my excess parts to a guy in Traverse City, MI last January. My friend Arthur Rightus finally caught up to me.

1961 MG A needs engine
What size is the installed engine? The Mark2’s had either 1600 or 1622cc, but a 1500cc block (Mark 1) is provided as a spare.
Ad on eBay says that it has the correct and running 1622.
Correction to the above: the 1600 MGA had the 1600 engine, but all the MKII MGAs had the 1622 engine…
This one is very near the end of the line as the last MKII was 109070…
Ad says with original and running 1622 engine. Heavily rusted undercar, if the frame has that big of a hole from rust, plan to replace it. It will be bad in may areas. Body looks fair. MKII’s are sought after, big project though. 35K will buy an awesome car, this one will cost double that amount. I did all mechanical on mine, no body work yet and its the most fun car to drive!
