Judging by the information contained in the photos for this 1969 Oldsmobile 442, it appears that the car has undergone some substantial discounting in recent times. There is a photo which shows the original asking price was $13,900, but it has now crept down to $9,900. Barn Finder Patrick S located the 442 for us, so thank you for that Patrick. The Oldsmobile is located in Holly Hill, Florida, and is listed for sale here on Craigslist. So, this is a car that could be yours for $9,900.
The 442 apparently started life finished in the very attractive Nassau Blue with a white top, but at some point in its life, it has undergone a repaint in what appears to be Crimson, which is basically the same as Matador Red. The owner says that the car is solid, and it is hard to see any obvious signs of rust in the supplied photos. However, judging by the quality of the photos, this is a car that will definitely require a personal inspection to determine just how good it actually is.
The interior of the Oldsmobile is definitely going to need some work, but it does appear to be largely complete. It must have been a pretty impressive vehicle when it was in its prime, what with the white interior matched to the Nassau Blue paint. There are plenty of pieces missing out of the dash such as the glove compartment and radio, and the rest of the interior is just going to need a lot of hard work to bring it up to scratch.
We don’t get any engine photos with the 442, and that’s a bit frustrating. The engine is said to be original, which should be the 400ci V8, which is backed by a 4-speed manual transmission. Where it gets a bit confusing is that there are some indications that the engine has undergone some work at a machine shop, but we don’t know what this work actually is. The other thing that we know is that the car does come with a spare engine, and the owner also has the original order sheet and window sticker for the car.
With the 442 being such a popular car, their values have continued to rise in recent years. If this is a solid car with few rust issues, and particularly if what is hiding under the hood is the original engine, then this is a strong prospect for a restoration project. At the end of the day, it could be possible to finish up owning a very desirable car that would also be a great long-term investment.
I did not think 69’s had front vent windows
I think that’s because it is a “post” rather than a hardtop. Hardtops have no vent windows.
Seller says ‘needs some work’, in the following sentence ‘restoration is a must!’. Somehow I think a restoration is a tad more than just ‘some work’?
Anyway, it’s a desirable model with nice specs, however it’s obvious that EVERYTHING will need to be adressed here.
Personally I find the 70 Cutlass ‘Gramma’s Ghost’ featured a few days back as a better starting point
Take detailed pictures of the entire car, not 2 pics of the footwell, not the SSII rim, not standing 50 feet back of a car on a trailer or a picture of a picture for the love of God.
Looks to have tilt steering which would be quite a find in a ’69.
It’s obvious the car has been for sale sitting on the trailer for a while with all that information taped to the windshield. When three guys are all trying to sell the same car that is a red flag to me.
A good friend of mine has a red with white stripes 69 442 W-30!! His car is immaculate and when they are done they are one of the nicest cars around!! I wish this one was a little closer cause it seems like not a bad deal with an extra motor!! I’m jealous someone else is going to get it!!
One of the previous statements about pictures is spot on! Delete some of these, take more, including underside pics. Mileage? Engine displacement? Clean out the inside, put all the spare parts in some sort of reasonable array, take a few pics of such. Ok, I’m really upset with those who want a lot of cash and not willing to take some time to SHOW us what they have. I’m out.
