Speedminder Option: 1969 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible

This black on black 1969 Convertible Corvette is located in Roca, Nebraska and is listed here on eBay with 2 days remaining in the auction. The seller claims that this is the hardest to find and most desirable C-3 ever produced. The Corvette is being sold with a frumpy white soft top and a black hardtop roof. The auction has drawn some attention to date and is bid to $11,000 for this unrestored example.

Before a buyer gets too excited, the seller includes this picture of the driver’s side rear frame. As disclosed there is rot and it will need to be replaced or patched. The ad states that the rest of the frame is solid and in excellent condition. Also, the seller believes the bird care to nice overall and offers pictures to potential bidders. The car was originally Daytona Yellow but was painted at some point. The seller is the third owner having recently acquired it from the second owner who had the car for 32 years.

The car is equipped with a rebuilt 350 cubic inch V8 engine that the seller believes is the original motor. The motor is backed by a Turbo 350 GM automatic transmission and the car is said to drive well and run reliably.

This Corvette is equipped with a Speedminder Speedometer which will buzz when the speedometer hits a preset needle. This novel option could come in handy for those of us with a leadfoot.

The Corvette is equipped with 15×7 Rally wheels and some old Goodyear Eagle GTs. The interior is worn and will need new seat covers, foam, carpet but the door panels can probably be cleaned up. There is front end damage to the body under the driver’s front headlight. This might be a great car to just patch and drive rather than fully restore.

Color change is a shame. These cars look great yellow and other bright colors. If the left rear is the only heavy frame rust the car’s worth having. Bodywork and paint take a long time to do right as any fiberglass repair requires letting the glass shrink and settle before doing any paint work. There is a Corvette specialty shop in Oklahoma City that turns out beautiful work but tells it’s full paint customers to come back for the car in 6 months or a year.

You’re thinking its a pity it was changed from yellow (and I tend to agree) but my first thought was, How hard would it be to convert to a red interior?) In my mind black on red is a phenomenal color combo.

TH350??? Uh, no. The picture shows it’s a TH400 and anyone who knows Vettes knows that the TH350 wasn’t used in the Vette until the late 70s.
Small block, automatic, rusty frame (and probably windshield header, too), wrong color. This is either a parts car or a candidate for restomod. Not enough here to validate the price it’s bid to.

I would think mid ’70s(’75 model on) when the wide cat converter came out & the turbo 400 would not fit next to it – same with the f-bodies.
Did the earlier ’60’s 327 vette get the turbo 400 automatic, or just the powerglide?

The base engines had the TH350 and the L82 engines still used the TH400. Mid-years used a Powerglide.
