Spotless Original: 1968 Oldsmobile Cutlass

This 1968 Oldsmobile Cutlass is about as clean and crisp as they come. It has spent the majority of its life in California, but now the owner needs storage space. This means that rather than leaving the car exposed to the elements, he has decided to part with it. The car is now located in Hillsborough, New Jersey, and is listed for sale here on eBay. With the bidding sitting at $14,600, the reserve has been met. Hopefully, that means that the Olds is about to head off to a new life where it will once again live undercover.

The Cutlass is said to be very solid, with all of the sheet-metal being original. The owner supplies a pretty fair selection of photos, and there are no signs of any rust issues. The Peruvian Silver paint has a great shine to it, while the exterior trim and chrome are also very impressive. The 1968 model year marked the first year of production of the 3rd Generation vehicles, and while they had shrunk slightly in length, overall vehicle weight had increased marginally. However, it wasn’t enough to have a drastic effect on vehicle performance. Compared to its predecessor, the new model provided a much more aggressive appearance, and it proved to be popular with the people who were considering purchasing a Cutlass.

The owner of the Cutlass describes the interior as being 90% original, so it has got me wondering which 10% isn’t. Regardless, the black trim all appears to be in really good condition, with no signs of any rips or tears. The dash and pad appear to be very tidy, but I think that I can spot a couple of faults. One of the knobs might be missing off the radio, while the lighter also appears to be missing. Otherwise, the interior looks just as clean and tidy as the exterior.

Speaking of clean, just how good does the engine bay look? It appears that the owner is pretty fussy about cleanliness, and there are no signs of any long-term issues such as coolant spills or leaks. The 350ci V8 is backed by a Jetaway automatic transmission, while the Cutlass also features power steering and power brakes. Judging by appearance, it looks like both the master cylinder and booster might be fairly new. The majority of the exhaust is original, except for the muffler. The owner says that the Olds runs and drives perfectly and that he would have no hesitation in driving it right across the country.

This Cutlass is a clean and solid classic that looks to need nothing but a new owner who will continue to lavish care and attention upon it. The car presents nicely, and would be well-suited to someone who is unable to take on a restoration project. With values on these really beginning to trend upwards, now might be the right time to park this one in your driveway.

The listing is shown as ended due to an error. Regardless there’s a lot to like on this one.

Translation: Someone talked the seller into selling early. May have been the deal of the century, since this could well be a true 80,000 mile Cutlass. Reason: original exhaust claim- easily verifiable due to the difference between factory and other exhaust. I had the exact same color car around 1974 in 4-4-2 form – an absolute blast to drive!

An original 1968 Cutlass 2dr would not have come from the factory with that hood. It appears that this is actually a Cutlass Supreme Holiday Coupe that has had the Supreme side trim removed and the holes filled. The VIN will either prove or disprove that.

Six months after I bought my Dad’s ’68 Cutlass, heard a disturbing “THUMP” from the rear end. Quick stop revealed the entire trunk floor had fallen out, rotted away by a torn bag of salt he carried to help when stuck in Michigan snow.

This listing was ended by the seller because there was an error in the listing.

Great car, splendid example. Imo the next model year was even more handsome.

Agree wholeheartedly with Rick R. – ’69 was the best, but I’m prejudiced. This car looks like it would be an easy Hurst Olds clone conversion. All you need is a Joe Mondello 455 and some Magnum 500s.

    I’ll take two.

The Hurst/Olds is the only Cutlass body that came from the factory in Peruvian Silver. This car was repainted.
