Spring Has Arrived: 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T

1970 Dodge Challenger RT

When we featured this car back in June, it still had snow on it! The seller has since relisted the car here on craigslist with updated photos and a thousand dollar price drop. $17k still seems high to me, but as we learned in our previous post, this was once a 440 Six Pack car! The engine is reportedly still there, but the transmission has been swapped out and the Six Pack sold off. The idea of rescuing something like this is fun to think about, but as Dustyn mentioned in the email, for less money “you can put together a muscle car from parts that’s every bit as fun and powerful as this”. It obviously wouldn’t be as valuable as something like this, but at least you could drive it. Sounds like a dilemma to me! So, what’s more important to you guys? Having a muscle car that’s valuable or having one that you can enjoy guilt-free? Thanks for the update Dustyn!

The correct link to Craigslist http://westslope.craigslist.org/cto/5131465307.html
I’m not that familiar with prices of American (muscle) cars so I won’t comment on the reduced pricetag, but I think I would not pay $ 17,000.

why would this guy sell off the 6 pak which leaves the engine wide open for junk and critters to explore and ruin? This guy only wants “serious buyers”?? How about we request only serious sellers? Drag your POS out of the bushes and clean it up! Pull the junk out the trunk and inside the car! You know, make it look presentable?? Lazy sellers irritate me so much! To answer your question Jesse, I like my cars to be fun and worry free!

I’ve been trying to buy this car since 1985. It was parked in ’79. One by one all of the special parts evaporated He pulled the carb off in ’79 so it sat with a Torker on it and no carb, a hastily gled on ‘glass hood scoop, which was broken by a tree. In high school, there was standing water in the intake. Yeah, the car is a major project to say the least. I hope somebody got it from Merle who will give it a good life, but it really is a BIG project. Interior is junk, but at least it’s not not rusty, been in Colorado at 8000 feet all it’s life. I last hiked down to it around 2014, and it was rough.

I have to agree with Cassidy. That seller is way too lazy to be so demanding. Especially with an option tag that is so bent/banged up. It’s quite the leap of faith to plunk down 17,000k.

Someone has been watching too many episodes of Graveyard Cars.

another point about the tag: I think they are supposed to be attacted with rivets, not screws

The screws are correct for the options tag. The VIN tag however is a different matter.

This seller really screwed up the first time he listed it thinking some fool was going to come running in the snow with wads of cash in their hands to buy it. Once you play your cards and make that first impression you can’t undo it. Car has way less value without the original six-pak set up and transmission and yet the seller has gone from advertising the car positioned in a frozen tundra to the amazon jungle now.

put a chain on it to drag it out and you will pull that car to pieces. without the parts, its worth a couple grand at most.
