SS Shell: 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle

Introduced in 1964, the mid-size Chevelle would quickly become one of GM’s best-selling cars. And it would serve as Chevy’s foundation in the muscle car segment of the market. Due to the popularity of performance cars in those days, the Chevelle SS 396 (Super Sport) became its own series in 1966. A year later, Chevy would sell nearly 60,000 of them. This car – or what’s left of it – is said to have been an SS at one point, but it’s down to mostly a shell at this point. Located in Gaffney, South Carolina, this project or parts car is available here on craigslist for $2,800. Kudos to Chuck Foster for the tip!

With some updates in styling fore and aft, the 1967 Chevelle was largely the same car as the year before. Front disc brakes became available for the first time. We assume the seller’s car once possessed a 396 cubic inch V8, of which as many as three variants were offered. However, in its place and sitting off to one side is a later 350 with a TH-350 automatic transmission. Its running condition is unknown.

We don’t know what happened over the years to bring this Chevelle to the state it’s in today. Much of what was once there has been pirated, like the interior and glass. The exterior sheet metal doesn’t look bad from the photos and buying this car for that may be the best reason. It no longer has a title, the rear-end is gone, and the floors and areas under the frame have succumbed to the rust bug. Just transporting what you see here is going to be a challenge as I’m not sure there’s any way to make it roll. Is there a hidden gem here or should you be looking for another candidate to restore?

My guess is deleted based on the good wind theory suggested by “Sarge” or the Seller got berated with replies along the lines of “Are you kidding me?”
