Stacked Headlights: 1976 Chevy El Camino Classic

This 1976 Chevrolet El Camino Classic is described as a solid example with 62,000 original miles. The ’76 Classic is an interesting car, as it had the stacked headlights a year before it became the norm – you could still buy one with the older round headlight design that year. Regardless, this is a tidy example that’s listed here on craigslist with a firm price of $7,750. Thanks to Barn Finds reader Rocco B. for the find.

This El Camino is nicely equipped, with a full tonneau cover and almost new tiers. The paint looks great and the body appears straight up and down the sides. It looks like it has the accessory strip alongside the door edge that helped prevent dings, so maybe that played a role in the clean appearance. The two-tone paint job is a nice look, and it’s a good look having the tonneau cover coordinate with the roof paint.

The cabin is quite nice, with a factory bench seat showing only minor wear. The door panels look equally fresh, with no cuts or alterations for aftermarket speakers. The dash isn’t cracked, and the carpets don’t reveal any obvious signs of soiling. The interior color really isn’t what I’d picture for this car, and while I am a purist, I might consider a color change to a black interior.

The El Camino offered a few different V8 options in 1976, including the 305, 350, and 400. Sadly, the 454 big block was dropped for this model year, as was the option to order a manual transmission with an eight-cylinder mill. The engine bay looks to be in good order, and the seller notes the El Camino recently passed California’s stringent smog testing. Given the seller’s firm price, do you think the ask is a fair deal?

Nicely done, You forgot potattoes. Patattos. You have to give a thumbs up to the author; coodinate and stringent! I love hearing or reading out if the ordinary words, well done.👍

Sorry but drilling the body for the buttons for a snap down toneau pretty much kills it for me. I’ve always objected to anyone doing that to a vehicle. Otherwise it looks pretty good from what I can see, I’d like to see more under body shots.

Pictures of the undercarriage is something a seller from that area wouldn’t generally think about. Cars sold new in the Bay Area are generally bone dry underneath and almost never have undercoating their floors typically don’t rust unless parked longterm on dirt or there is a water leak into the trunk or interior.

Photos of the undercarriage should be included, regardless of where the seller is located. Just because it’s currently for sale in the Bay Area doesn’t mean it’s spent the last 40+ years there.

Personally I find such Elkys and Malibus to be probably the most fortunate design of its era. Great potential here. One of very few grilles that looks better with square headlights than circular

Wow, I,m looking for a camino and here in Fl a rusted out, torn up one goes for $4k. A nice one will set ya back $12 – $15k. I’ve had 2 in my time and wished I never got rid of them. I’m looking for a 80 on up with a 350 and air.
