Street Beast: 1966 Cobra Convertible Project

According to the classic car insurer Hagerty, the average value for a 1966 Shelby Cobra is about $1,300,000! For those of us that can’t afford a seven-figure real Cobra, a “kit” car is a great alternative. Kits like this one from Street Beasts are high-quality fiberglass replica bodies and can be finished as mild or as wild as the builder wants. This particular car can be found here on Craigslist with an asking price of $4,900. Located in Edgewater, Florida, the car appears to be a stalled project. Let’s take a look at this ride and thanks to Pat F. for the tip on this cool Cobra.

Here is a look at the rear portion of the frame including the suspension and fuel cell. Unfortunately, there isn’t a lot of information in the ad. It is unknown if this is a home-made chassis or if it came from Street Beast (or some other source). It appears to be engineered well, but the seller would be wise to inspect it in person.

Here is a look at the front suspension and steering. It appears to be a rack and pinion setup, but again, there are no specific details in the ad. This setup is a great option for performance cars and would really make the light Cobra handle well.

The seller says they have the trunk lid, hood, and doors which are included in the sale as well. Obviously this car will take a ton of work to complete, but it looks like a good start. As long as the fiberglass is in good shape and the chassis is quality, it has the potential to be a really nice car. So what do you think of “kit” cars? Are they a legitimate segment of the classic car hobby or are they blasphemous?

The first ad says. “No Frame”. He must not have gotten any interest without the frame.

They may be “fake snakes” but highly desirable by some people, and let’s face it. until the hood is opened most people wouldn’t know the difference.

I think the the most important thing is a complete list of what comes with it. From the pictures it would seem not much.

Caution: Very poor welding on the rear portion of the frame.
