Summer Home Stored: 1969 Plymouth Fury

fury1

In a weird way, I hope that my heirs someday find whatever vehicles I still own at my summer home in some warm, tropical place. That’s just me. I like the heat and I relish the idea of living out my days surrounded by my favorite cars. The seller of this 1969 Plymouth Fury here on craigslist says it belonged to his aunt who kept it at her summer home in Florida, and it had been sitting for six years following her passing.

The Fury isn’t a high-spec model, running an ordinary 318 V8 with an automatic transmission. But it does present well, and likely served its owner well on short trips to the grocer and hair salon. The Fury is a bit sun-burnt on the surface, but is claimed to have a mere 39,000 miles on the clock. The original build sheet is included, along with the original wheels and hubcaps. I think the seller should have shown it on those rollers, personally, instead of the aftermarket items.

The interior remains in great shape with what appears to be an untorn bench seat. The Fury also includes its original optional 8-track FM radio and factory wheel skirts on the outside. Summer home vehicles tend to see limited use on a seasonal basis, and usually aren’t worked too hard. Despite the outside wearing some sun damaged paint, the inside doesn’t appear to have suffered the same fate.

The body is not perfect, and it looks as though there is some rust penetration in the rear quarter. However, with loads of new parts including a new carb, gas tank, brakes and shocks, this Fury looks like a fun driver that could either be cleaned up to near showroom shape or simply enjoyed for the imperfect survivor that it is. The listed price is $8,000, which seems high – but maybe there’s room for negotiation if the aftermarket wheels are swapped off.

Neat old ’69 Fury! Since it’s a FL car though, I would be concerned about what might be lurking rust wise under that vinyl roof.

Umm that sure looks like fresh paint on that engine. 139,000 or 239,000 is my bet.

I’m guessing at least two accidents by the three different shades on the passenger side and the man made 9atina on the front

$8k? Would be a fun daily driver but that car’s not the only thing that’s been out in the sun too long. :)

Sun damage down to the primer? I don’t think so. $800 car tops.

I don’t know about $8000.00, but it does look good. Who is Jim Edgar, and why is he mentioned?

Its in Chicago, trunk , underneath and engine have been rattled can. The odometer has been over the 100k mark, it has spring helpers on the rear shocks, new fuel tank. I’d say the engine needs rebuild and its a 1200$ special all day!

I”m usually very forgiving but this one just doesn’t seem right to me. Not worth much. And beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I personally find this generation to be the most awkwardly styled Chrysler products of the post-Exner era. Pass, though someone else is bound to like it.

I like it needs a bigger motor

This can’t be worth $8K, can it?
My brother bought a ’70 4 door Coronet back in the mid 90’s for less than $1K. For a New England car, it had no rust, was really immaculate, low mileage aunt / grandma’s car. With the 318 it was a lot of fun.
