Tangerine Garage Find: 1970 Porsche 911T

Great colors alone can oftentimes drive interest in a collector car, as is the case with air-cooled Porsches of seemingly every vintage. The rarer the color, the more interest there is, so it’s not surprising to see the seller of this 1970 Porsche 911T list it with an asking price of nearly $50,000. Of course, it has a great story as well, having been in the care of one owner since 1976 and sitting in a garage unused since 1985. It doesn’t run and mileage is believed to be original at 133,000. Find it here on eBay and located in Chester Springs, Pennsylvania, with a listed price of $47,900.

The 911 does not run at present, and it will require rust repair in the floors. Still, you have to love how original it appears in photos, with consistent paint down the sides and what looks to be very straight body panels. The 911 rides on its original chrome hubcaps and looks tidy with its pre-safety bumper bumperettes tucked nicely up against the body. The seller confirms 1985 was the last time it was registered for road use, so it’s certainly possible all those years off the road kept it from getting torn to pieces by Pennsylvania’s winter roads. The seller only goes so far as to say the engine is “presumably” numbers matching and doesn’t mention whether a certificate of authenticity has been applied for.

Still, lingering doubts aside, this looks like a very nice specimen. The interior is in outstanding condition, with black leatherette seats still presenting exceptionally well, and the same can be said for the door panels and carpets. There’s just one or two obvious cracks in the dash, lending further credibility to the claim that it’s been garage parked since the middle 1980s. The door sills look solid and all trim appears to be in place, but it’s hard to say whether an original radio is still mounted in the dash. The seller mentions that rust issues have been discovered in the lower floors but doesn’t elaborate further. There are lots of original details captured in the photo gallery, including the original paint touch-up stick and OEM spare tire.

Another good sign is the stickers that line the shroud around the engine door opening, as these are usually missing if a vehicle has been repainted. All are accounted for here, and the paint looks like a good match inside the engine bay as well. The seller notes the 911 does not run and no attempt will be made to start it, but it has the appearance of an engine that was never taken apart halfway or otherwise modified; hopefully, a restart isn’t too many days away from happening after the basic deferred maintenance is addressed. Great colors and in survivor condition – what’s not to love?

An early 70’s 911 that doesn’t run and has rusty floors for 50K – sounds about right, unfortunately.

Richard Hammond sold one of the best California-sourced 1969 911Ts in the world at a charity auction for $85K the other day. This car won’t be that nice after someone throws $200K at restoring it.

Awesome ’70 Porsche 911T and color! I sure do wish Sellers would make sure the doors are completely closed before taking photographs. This 911T looks like it has a terrible door gap on the right side as a result of that. At least I hope that is all that is causing the quarter panel and door chrome misalignment.
