The Perfect Gift: Spy Hunter Arcade Game!

spy-hunter-arcade

With Christmas just around the corner, it’s time to start hinting to your loved ones. You could accept that tie or other unwanted trinket. Or you could forward them the link to this! Spy Hunter was released in 1983 and was one of my favorite video games. So, this vintage arcade machine could be the perfect addition to my garage. Unfortunately, it’s a little too far away for me so I thought I’d share it here instead. It’s located in McClure, Ohio and is listed here on eBay where bidding is at $380 with no reserve.

Checkout the steering wheel, shifter, gas pedal, and blaster buttons! This is the perfect gaming machine for a gear head. I only ever played it on a Nintendo, so it would be exciting to take this puppy for a spin. If you haven’t ever played the game, you basically just drive around and shoot baddies. It has an eighties spy movie feel to it and some even claim that the game was originally going to carry the James Bond license. I’m not sure about that, but I do know that it would look great in the corner of my garage. So, who’s ready to kill some spies?

Decent price for the game, but they’re a pain to keep running. If the power supply has been rebuilt and the ribbon cables replaced, it should run forever. If not, they need to be. The MCR2 games are notoriously finicky!

Holy cow! One of my favorite games of all time! I can hear the background music to the game playing in my head now! Great price!

I understand the novelty of the standup case, but if you just want to play the game again, emulators are a great way to recapture the spirit.

This game was situated at the corner store at the end of my paper route as a kid for months. I’m not sure exactly how that affected my bottom line, but it couldn’t have been favourable.

In the early 80’s I made my living placing games like this one in coin laundries. Did most of my own repairs with the exception of monitors. Spy hunter didn’t last long, but Ms Pac Man and Galaga went on profitably for decades.

No wheels, or tracks, or any kind of combustion engine, pass. These things always gave me a headache. ( but I can endure a top fuel dragster warming up, go figure)

Best part was you you drove into the boat house & came out as a speed boat. That rocked my world as a 12 year old whose parents allowed to ride his bicycle a couple miles along main roads to get to 7-11. I can taste the Charleston Chew now.

yes —– I myself remember playing Spy Hunter …. then there was the 1st CD game ….Dragon’s Lair — which had super sensitive controls — cost 75 cents a play — and you got killed very easily

    BUT — I bought a Stand up — GALAGA in 1995 for $ 500 — kept it for 15 years and sold it for $ 500 …. not to bad :)
