The White Cloud: 1956 Rolls Royce

1956 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud

I believe this garage find Rolls is a Silver Cloud I, the first variant of the Silver Cloud line, despite having the front end from a Silver Cloud III (with quad headlights). It is located in Denver, Colorado and is offered here on eBay for an opening bid of $28,000 without reserve. Supposedly this car has been used as a limo and has less than 24k original miles. Perhaps it was off the road for a while after whatever damage happened that caused the front end replacement. Regardless, despite having some ripples in the sides, it does have some excellent features. One of those is a “custom” air conditioning system, something rarely found in a car this old and certainly nice to have. The cooling system and brakes have been rebuilt recently, and the seats have been reconditioned with no tears in the leather. If it is a Cloud I, it has the silky-smooth Rolls inline 6 cylinder with only 155 horsepower but sufficient torque to gently motivate this heavy car.

1956 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud Interior

Of course, one of the main attractions of a car like this is the interior, and this one looks nice, although the 80’s stereo system and Nardi wheel are glaring anachronisms. I do appreciate the modern seat belts, though. Would you like some Grey Poupon with your Rolls Royce?

If I remember correctly, the Rolls Royce 6 was 385 ci. The torque produced must have been immense. Either way, these cars were not designed to smoke the tires. Nice car.

if seller, who has 0 feedback under this id and 4 vehicles for sale on ebay, does not have the full history try contacting the Rolls Royce Owners Club who may. it would need that history and a PI from someone who knows these cars before bidding. sure looks in white. great find if it is all there.

That’s sure no Silver Cloud III front end! Rather, someone got hold of some SCIII headlights and grafted the onto this car. They are MUCH to high compared to a factory SCIII. Horrible. This car is worth very little.

I don’t know. This looks like a butcher job. I sold my ’57 S1 last year and it was a lot better and accurately restored.

Wavy fenders, rockers and doors on this. No engine pics. No AC install pics. Better look really closely at this before you leap. These are VERY expensive cars to restore and maintain. Full brake job is just this side of $8000.00. I’d like to see the paper on this.

…not to mention the mis-matched bonnet and grille. Yikes! Run away!

I agree it’s an abomination, and maybe those modifications are reversible. On the bright side, the general public would not know, so this quasi-Proper Motor Car would qualify for limousine/wedding duty, but not many RR collectors would want it as-is.

Best in show 1986, that’s 29 years ago. I sure looked a lot better 29 years ago too.
