Three Mustangs, Two Fastbacks, One Price

I have found that over the years, as more parts from projects past and current continue to pile up, I become more altruistic with my spare parts sales. That is, I have started giving stuff away just to keep the garage clear of spares that will never otherwise see the light of day. The same thing can happen with actual vehicles, as the seller of two fastbacks and one coupe Mustang shells here on eBay has come to realize, as he’s selling three shells for just $1,695.

It’s hard to follow in the listing, but the seller had a grand vision for swapping all sorts of good bits from bad shells and onto more worthy bodies. This yellow fastback is said to be one the more sound cars, but the term “sound” is likely used in the loosest sense of the word. Even this shell needs significant work, namely in the trunk floor area. Still, fastbacks are desirable Mustangs, so perhaps this one is worth building into a functional vehicle again. Check out the house and truck in the background!

This coupe body is said to be in good shape, and the seller actually had planned to convert it into a fastback design using the roof from a green fastback also in the collection. I guess at the end of the day, he was hoping to end up with two fastback cars – which was certainly an ambitious goal considering the condition of all three. The asking price for all three cars seems quite cheap, but I’ll leave it to our Mustang experts as to whether even a sub-$2,000 price is still fair for fastbacks in this condition.

There are some logistical issues, as two of the cars are in Florida and the third is in Louisiana. The seller is open to splitting the collection up or helping the next owner collect all three bodies. Personally, I’ve never been so ambitious when it comes to projects to wanting to take something of this scale on, and fastbacks aren’t so hard to find that you’d spend years looking for a good one. But given the number of comments on the ad of people wanting to come look at the cars, maybe there are some courageous restorers still out there.

If they have titles, I see a few vins that will live on… But other than that, scrap metal.

Unless they were well optioned with big blocks and four speeds probably not worth all the effort.

Isn’t the gas tank the trunk floor on a mustang? Maybe the yellow one is not as bad as you think.

If I am reading the listing correctly the sale is for the 2 fastback cars only. There is no mention of the coupe. Only one of the fastbacks has a title and it is unclear as to which one it is. The two shells are both claimed to be F code cars, which is a 302, 2 barrel. As Dan mentioned above the gaping hole visible in the rear floor pan of the yellow car is where the fuel tank would be if it were still installed.

Believe it or not from what I have seen, for anyone interested in a fastback Mustang, I think this guy is right on his money and would not be surprised to see the pair end up selling

I have seen fastback roof sections listed for $2000, so this might actually be a good deal for the right person.

I’ve actually given stuff like this away just to get rid of it. Who’d thunk about selling it?!

Well there are still a few good parts on the fastbacks if you need them such as windshield & side glass / front fender extensions if the lower tab is not broken which most are / front fenders if not rotted. But would be to expensive to buy both cars just for the parts when including shipping. Hope someone either gets usable parts or attempts to save the cars before the crusher gets them.

“Sound” means the sound of your wallet imploding.

The late, great Mitch Hedberg once said that people handing out flyers on the street were basically saying, “here, you throw this away.” For some reason, this ad reminded me of that joke.

The same seller has 15 assorted Ford Expedition door handles for sale.

You can never have too much

Salvage the roofs, use a plasma cutter to harvest whatever you can, and scrap the rest. These are way past a restorable level. They’d have to be 428CJ 4 speed ram-air cars to even think about being worth the effort, and even if they were, the VIN number is the only real value besides the staggered shock mounting plate (if they had them).

I am not a ford fan, however I do like 67, 68, 69 & 70 mustangs (that is it for Ford with me)
For that price buy them make one a roller fix a few things with easily avalible parts and pass it on with some profit. The next guy can do a little more after a few owners maybe some one will drive it one day.
