Topless Goat: 1968 Pontiac GTO

1968 Pontiac GTO Convertible

The seller of this convertible GTO appears to be a dealer and is either selling it for the original owner or purchased it from them and aren’t counting themselves as an owner, as they claim it has only had one owner since new. Which it is, I don’t know and while I’m not a fan of the later idea, I’m not sure it has much bearing on the value of this car for me, as it is in really great original shape. From a little distance, it looks to be in nearly perfect shape, but looking at the detail shot you can see all the signs of a survivor. The paint has cracks, chips, and scratches that only come with age. The interior and top have about the right amount of wear for a car with 60k miles. And I don’t see any modifications or overspray in the engine bay. You can find this GTO here on eBay in Muskegon, Michigan with bidding at $10k. So do you believe this really is a one owner car or does the line “originally owned by a women” make you question this seller?

Hasn’t Barn Finds featured this guy before, his line proclaiming his restoration business and would gladly restore the car before shipping to you sounds awful familiar.

at $16100 with 8 days to go. this is going to get costly. i was going to say it would make a great daily driver but it will more then likely be bought as a investment. nice find.

Per ad originally owned by a woman. Maybe still is and is being repped by the seller. In any event original is best…unless it is an automatic with a white interior. I wish I could see the dealer sticker on the rear trunk lid though. On the other hand it is resale red and the top goes down. Why anyone would want to dump even MORE money into it and “restore” it is beyond me. At this price it is a buy and drive.

Column shift? Now that is odd, but I know back in the day they would produce them any way someone wanted.

Nice survivor. Gonna get pricey if you ask me. I woul love to have it. Just keep it as is and enjoy and maintain it. Not a fan of red but I like it.

A couple of things stand out right away- The carburetor has been changed to a non Pontiac carb. The rubber fuel line with the inline filter going around to the passengers side is the giveaway. Secondly, the trunk lid is missing the GTO badge on the right side. The holes aren’t even present.
Column shift is a non issue. Auto tranny without the console came that way every time.
Overall, it’s a very nice car that appears to be in great (if not totally original) condition. Wish he’d shown the PHS and the data plate in his photos. Nice car.
