Now this is a truck! Talk about a great looking front end. I really have to hand it to the good people at Studebaker back in the late ’40s, they came up with some amazing designs, even for their work trucks! This old M5 is very rusty, some might say it has patina, but I think it’s well past that point. I guess if you’re looking for a truck to make a statement in, this one would do it. Personally, I’d love to see this grille all done up with new paint and redone chrome! So would you restore this truck or leave it looking old, rough and tough?
I really like the grill. However the more I look at it the more it reminds me of Mr. Potatohead. LOL
The best part of the truck is the front end, very rustic. To me, the rest of the truck looks like its terminal, sanding air after awhile because there’s no more metal is not my idea of a good time. I’d do some measuring and then break out the Sawsall and cut that front end off. I might keep the tailgate but send the rest off as scrap. That front end will look fantastic on my wall!
Cool except it’s a Studebaker! Cut it in front of the wheels and it would look good over the doorway in a restaurant.
Patina fans rejoice, here is your holy grail. The motor runs and that is a plus. But the body is going to be a lot of WORK.

I agree with Wayne, “cool because it’s a Studebaker”. Another significant truck, as in ’49 they changed to the “all-new” Studebaker trucks. I have seen these with a chrome grill, which really enhances the front end. Most, however, were just farm trucks, and very few had the chrome grill. Studebaker was on it’s high horse after the war, as many came home, and drove trucks like this “over there”. Lot of work here, but not many left. Great find.
Wonderful, tough, handsome trucks. But this one is regrettably a bit far gone. Parts vehicle for restoration of another? Maybe I am too defeatist. There’s got to be someone out there wanting to bring this back.

I like the wall hanging idea, but I hate to see anyone profit from an ailing farm/barn find. This thing in the photograph was electrified and the asking price was $2200 at an antique mall near me.
Save the truck, take out the engine, save it for resale and drop in a new engine and front axle and turn this into a bad four wheeler to play with for a while, easy enough to put in a new bed. When you want to trade in/up drop original engine and front axle in and sell as a survivor, woo hoo
