Track Day Fun: 1972 Porsche 914 Project

1972 Porsche 914 Project

914s have been the affordable route to Porsche ownership for many. The mid-mount engine and light weight make these excellent handlers. This 914 project has been stripped down and re-sprayed. The seller claims that everything is there, but that it needs to be put back together. It is located in Cottage Grover, Oregon and is for sale on eBay with bidding starting at $1,200 with no reserve and a BIN of $3,500.

1972 Porsche 914 Project Rear

The seller does not include many photos, but the body looks to be in excellent condition and we love the blue color. We would want to inspect it or have someone inspect it to make sure the body work was done professionally and that it is not full of bondo. These were simple cars and if all the parts really are there as claimed, this may be a good deal. The ads states that the engine included is a 1.8 liter, but it does not mention if it is currently in the car or in pieces. If it is installed and running, it would make this deal even sweeter.

1972 Porsche 914 Project Parts Car

The sale also includes this parts car. It doesn’t look like there is much left, but you may be able to resell a few of the parts and scrap the body to help pay for the project. You would never be able to find a beat up 914 and have it repainted for the asking price of this package deal.

1972 Porsche 914 Track Car

Here is some inspiration for this project. This 1972 Porsche 914 is also for sale on ebay right now, but it has been extensively modified for track day fun. The quality of this build is amazing and there is a genuine 993 RS engine out back. The seller spent over $100k on this and is only asking about half that. This could be the nicest 914 we have ever seen and it makes us want the project car above to attempt to build something like this. We would not want to spend $100k like they did, but we would consider doing the swap to make it a 914/6. It would not be as potent, but you can pick up a 911 engine with everything to convert it at Motor Meister for as low as seven grand. We hope someone picks up both of these great finds and has some fun!
