Two For One: 1972 BMW 2002Tii + BMW 320i

While most newer luxury vehicles incorporate excessive integration of technology, this wasn’t always the case, especially for BMW. Older models produced by the company combined handsome styling and nimble handling without an overwhelming amount of comfort features, which is part of the reason they are so popular among enthusiasts to this day. Barn Finds reader FordGuy1972 found this pair of classic BMW projects here on Craigslist, and it’s a great deal for anyone with the means to revive them.

This sale includes two BMW models – a 1972 BMW 2002Tii and a 1979 BMW 320i. Both vehicles are available in Moultonborough, New Hampshire and because these coupes are part of an estate sale, everything must be sold together and the seller will not separate any items or vehicles. Even so, the advertisement states that both vehicles have clean titles.

The 2002 has a variety of desirable traits, such as the fact it’s a round taillight Tii model in the vivid Inka Orange color. However, the seller discloses that it will need a complete restoration, and it is unknown when the vehicle last ran.

Inside the cabin, the 2002’s interior isn’t too dilapidated. There are some cobwebs present, but everything looks complete and mostly original, except for newer seats and an aftermarket steering wheel.

Of course, there’s also the E21. The exterior of this car looks better off than the 2002, and supposedly, it utilizes an Alpina suspension setup and a Callaway turbo system.

Unfortunately, the interior on the 320i looks incomplete and used for parts storage.

The asking price for both coupes is $4500. A roundie 2002Tii is a “bucket list” vehicle of mine and the E21 is a nice bonus, but I definitely don’t have the means to save these two at the moment. What would you do with these classic Bimmers and the period-correct parts that come with them?

This package will be gone in a matter of minutes. Probably already is.

Wow. I would do bad, bad things for that Callaway turbo kit and whatever the “Alpina” suspension offering was for an E21 at the time. This is a ridiculous deal and Luki is correct that someone is likely headed there with a trailer as we speak.

I own a classic Beemer, a 1975 2002, and I wish people would stop using the term “Bimmer”. It just sounds dumb to me.

Yes, I know Beemer denotes motorcycles, and bimmer is for cars, but they are both manufactured by BEEEMW, so I’m bucking the trend and calling them all Beemers. It would be like calling Honda cars “Hondas”, and calling the motorcycles “Honders”. Yeah, it sounds dumb.

Hi Rex, growing up in Wisconsin cars and scooters were called Beemers. Did not know the differance until I bought one. I solved the problem for myself with my plate. Enjoy your 02! Take care, Mike.

Dude, you are the best! I’m not worthy of such generosity, but thanks!

P.S. Deep in the back of my beer fridge was hiding a nice surprise – a Leinie Oktoberfest from last year! Party on!

Yeah. We called them Bimmers long before 1975.

I used to have an E21 ( 5.0 Ford V8) in the same color. I believe that the Alpina package was seats, Bilsteins, sway bars and limited slip.

Grew up riding in mom’s golf yellow 2002 and in the harsh Recaros of grandpa’s Sahara tan 1600. I’d love a chance just to sit in one again for a minute.

I had a pristine 1974 2002tii back in 1984. That damn car broke every time I got in it! After about two years I sold it for a 2k loss. I was never so happy to lose 2k in my life. I told the guy who bought it if it breaks down at the end of the street don’t come back here. That BMW was junk. My son purchased a 2006 535i and it was a pile of junk also. I wouldn’t have another BMW if it were given to me.

I had a 1969 2002 which I decided to re paint as the orange paint was very faded. I removed the stickers under the bonnet and discovered that the paint colour was “Colorado” orange, not “Inca.” Maybe they changed the colour name for later models. At the same time I owned a 1967 Mustang coupe and enjoyed the BEEMER much more than the Mustang on long, 500 mile, 5 and 1/2 hour trips.

Colorado and Inka are two completely different orange colors for the 2002, both offered concurrently.

Thanks Brian. I figured there might be an answer to that one as Kevin was quite sure about the colour being INKA.

Spent a year driving a 2002 Tii round taillight car in Europe. Probably one of the finest driving machines ever built. Being a Mini Cooper S owner I’m not a BMW fan any more but the 2002s were as good as they get.

Hmm….interesting that there is a spare “2002tii” badge with all the parts. Is there any way to tell from the photos in the listing if the car is a real tii, or if it’s been “up-badged”? If the previous owner took the time to source one spare badge, it’s possible that he found a couple….and stuck one of them on the back of his (non-tii) 2002. That would have a big impact on value.

there’s enough bits shown in the photos to discern the model. pity it’s on the wrong side of the country. there’s a lot of rust repair to be done but it’s doable with patience. BTDT

My grandmother purchased a 2002 automatic new in 1970. Great running and driving car but it rusted into the driveway by 1980. Too bad as it was an awesome little car

Gone ?!?!? Posting already deleted by author before I got to read it as of 9/13 afternoon. Dang. Nearly bought a Tii in early ’75 after seeing/driving the Ti in Germany. Not thrilled with the sort of Marroon color, nor the fact it was positively loaded with options (that added weight & ridiculous cost) and the dealer wanted an additional premium with a “try to find another one” comment to me. Needless to say, he neither got my business nor any referrals. Bought all my other cars, including a “massaged” 328is, elsewhere.
