This 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle Super Sport 396 has been sitting in a garage since 2006. The car is said to start and run and the seller was able to pull it up on a trailer after purchasing it. The SS396 is equipped with a 4 speed transmission and the engine is said to be numbers matching. The seller has listed the car for sale here on eBay and their are 3 days remaining in the auction. The 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396, has a Buy It Now Price of $24,500 and the seller list their phone number in the ad. The car was originally sold at Pierson Chevrolet in Gadsden, Alabama and is now located in Manahawkin, New Jersey.
The heart of this beast is the L34 396 cubic inch V8 engine backed by a Muncie M20 4 speed transmission. The factory build sheet indicates that the rear gears are 3.31. The engine is said to have lifter noise and will most likely need to be rebuilt along with the rest of the car. The car is in primer and there is a lot of surface rust but the only rot appears to be in the passenger side floor and trunk. The buyer has a new trunk pan that he bought that goes with the sale.
The Chevelle left the factory pained in Code 48 dark green with a green vinyl interior. While the interior is well worn and dirty, it appears to be all there with the exception of a hastily applied black carpet. The car does not have many convenience options but who would turn on the radio when you could listen to the big block roar down a two lane road. The build sheet states that the car is equipped with the F41 special performance package, positraction rear end, power disc brakes, power steering and the U63 push button radio. The ZL3 SS 396 Conversion option is also listed on the build sheet.
This muscle car is pretty solid and would not be too hard to restore once the parts are sourced and the car receives the proper body work and rust repair. The rear brakes are not hooked up but the emergency brake is said to work. The glass looks good and the odometer reads 85,300 miles. Hopefully, the seller will negotiate and come down on the price so this car can find a good home and the restoration can begin.
People were bad mouthing the good 69 Corvette on this site as a money pit. This thing will drain your debit card faster than the Titantic went down. People are out off their mind.

My first thought was that I would much rather have a ’70 Corvette and for this amount of $$, it would be in much better condition.
Personal preference of course. I’ve always liked Vettes better than Chevelles.

Chevelles are hot. Corvettes are not. Its just the market and what people want.
Guess we dont have to debate about the stripe thing like the other day with a ’70 SS454. I can picture this green machine brand new sitting on the lot, must’ve been nice. Few hard jaunts down the highway, banging gears…well kind of banging them don’t want to hurt your new ride. To me it is just a Saturday night cruiser, sporty work car, after getting blown in the weeds by some wierd looking new Ford LTD with a cobra emblem on the fender……hey wait, that was a,,,,….Torino??? The Chevelle will never compete dead stock, not now in 1970 with 450 plus inch street brawlers roaming. Especially that darn Buick,, wow, how he could they afford the insurance!?
