This is not the most helpful listing we’ve seen on eBay, but the ones with other parts of a collection in the background are always interesting. This listing is for a 1973 Volkswagen Beetle convertible with what looks like clean cosmetics but no mention of the running condition or photos of the interior. Mileage isn’t listed either, but the price seems fair at $4,900 or best offer. Find it here on eBay and parked next to a tidy Triumph TR4.
What else can you make out in this photo, parked in front of the Beetle? While you’re doing your best to determine what that dusty outline is, let’s look at the drop-top Bug, said to be in “great shape” due to being stored indoors. The body does appear sound but the top looks less than great – it’s pulling above the passenger door and appears partially collapsed above the rear window. It could just be a fitment issue, but if so, I would have straightened it up for the photos.
Here’s a better look at what’s parked in front. And, off to the right side is a Karmann Ghia convertible that has been repainted but also hasn’t moved in a while due to the flat tires. The seller seems to have a thing for convertibles, don’t they? While the later Bugs may have been more livable on a daily basis, the early model convertibles were so pretty – I have a hard time warming up to the later cars. But the interiors were absolutely more refined, and body parts are likely easier to find, too.
The photo selection isn’t great, but the seller does post his phone number for calling direct with any questions. As a 1973 model, this example wears the elongated safety bumpers mandated by the feds, but I imagine it’s not too difficult to swap in the slimmer earlier examples. While you’re at it, grab some of the factory “Sport” wheels from a Super Beetle and lose the body-color steelies currently mounted. If the seller accepted $3,500 or thereabouts, there’s lots of potential with this Beetle convertible – or would you attempt to buy another car in this collection?

I also have a 73 super beetle convertible.Former owner converted to 66-67 front and rear bumpers, tail lights,and license plate light. That’s what appealed to me when I bought it.

Definitely a fan of the older Beetles. I would do like someone else mentioned, and swap out the bumpers and lights from a 65-66. We’re in the middle of selling our 66 Beetle Deluxe on eBay now, unfortunately. Health issues. It sucks.
