Weathered 1962 Cadillac Series 62

This car seems to have a lot going for it.  Said to be a “solid mid-west car” it includes a list of new under hood parts along with new whitewall tires and cool 1956 hubcaps. Found here on craigslist in the town of Enumclaw, Washington for $4,200. While not as desired as their high-finned predecessors from a few years earlier, these early sixties Cadillacs are still great looking cars that ride like a dream.

Perhaps a project that has stalled or a family hand-me-down that is no longer able to be maintained?  The seller states a fuel delivery issue is the only thing keeping this from being a reliable driver.  A hit to the front drivers side has damaged some valuable parts including the grill and headlight trim.  They might be difficult to find considering most Cadillacs after World War II were one-year only body styles.

There are a couple pictures of the interior, but none of the engine bay.  A shame considering the ad list several parts that have been replaced under the hood.  While the front seat has seen better days, the rear seat appears to have rarely seen a passenger.  The body does appear solid and the seller describes it as solid with minimal surface rust.  Probably painted Pompeian Red Metallic from the factory, it’s hard to tell the difference between the original paint and surface rust.

Along with paint damage, the cracked windshield, steering wheel and dash may indicate this car has been stored outside for some time.  If the car runs as well, and the body is as solid as the seller describes, this would make a good project for someone willing to do acres of sanding for a repaint.  Don’t these cars look great in bright red or deep black?  I sure think so.

    Try asking for $1,200.

It looks like a whole school of piranha have attacked that driver seat! It’s also not far from my neck of the woods. But this thing needs too much help for me to have considered it even back in my Cadillac driving days.

Really like this body style….over what some say are the better ones….think it was the 61/62 bodies….

Ya know……..cars dont get like this without massive amounts of neglect. Its too bad. The internet has made everyone drag anything they can find from anywhere and post it for sale as if buyers were fish and the car a baited hook.

    Come on.

Had a ’65 for awhile, during the second oil crisis in ’79. What a great car, although, rather a boat. But it had the greatest AC in any car I’ve ever had. It was some sort of plum color – never researched the exact name for it. Sold it to by my 74 1/2 MGB/GT, which I still have.

I don’t even see that this one HAS air conditioning. A Caddy with no AC? What’s the point?

My last 62 had AC, but I lived in Arizona at the time. With this one, I shouldn’t need it since I’m living in Oregon. IMO, it doesn’t get hot enough here to need it.

Great year for Cadillac styling in my opinion, but this one has seen too much neglect for way too long. $4200? I don’t think so!

Stumbled across this post… I actually bought this car, but not for the asking price. Unfortunately, the vehicle was a long ways away from being a reliable driver. I’ve been throwing parts at it for quite sometime, but am nearing the finish line.

Here’s where it sits right now. I’ve completely rebuilt the front suspension, added disc brakes and a full air ride set-up.

Here’s the seat, which I wrapped in the original material. Found it at SMS here in Oregon. turned out pretty slick. I had the back seat done as well

I pulled everything out of her, POR15’d the floor, which had a touch of rust. After that, I put down a ton of FatMat for sound purposes.

Gotta show the plate I’m running. Pretty fitting I think.

I replaced the fuel tank, sending unit, fuel lines and complete exhaust. To say this thing has nickle and dimed me would be an understatement.

While I still have a few things to button up under the hood, this gives you an idea of what I’ve been up to. New carb, air cleaner, starter, alternator, offenhauser valve covers, cap, wires, electronic ignition and some wiring… I’m sure there’s more…
