Yellow Gold Survivor: 1986 Chevrolet Camaro

As I’ve written about before, Camaros in unique colors will always get my attention. While I’m still smitten by the brown one we featured a few days ago, this nicely preserved Yellow Gold example is another favorite shade of mine. The seller says it remains in excellent condition and is an unmodified example that came nicely equipped from the factory. Find it here on eBay with bidding over $6K and the reserve unmet.

Mileage is reported as just over 85,000 with a nicely reserved body and new Cooper tires recently installed. The seller doesn’t elaborate as to any accidents in its past, but paint like this would tend to show any color mismatches fairly obviously. The factory Z28 badges and graphics are all in place, too, which would be a strong tell if they were left off the car when a repaint occurred. There’s just two owners reported from new and it’s said to have been garaged by both owners.

The interior is black cloth with a power driver’s seat and an automatic transmission in the center console. While we’d all love to see a manual in a car like this, sometimes the slushbox is what keeps a car like a Camaro from becoming hot-rodded or otherwise abused. Yellow on black is a sharp combination, and the seller reports other features as the overhead console, rear hatch shade, power hatch release, factory T-tops, and cold A/C.

The engine is a stock LB9 V8 which looks quite clean under the hood. The color matching seems quite good between the painted surfaces under the hood and the front fenders, and none of the lenses appear newer than the others. Black plastics also present quite nicely, giving this Camaro an overall feeling of preservation that only comes with cars that are loved, even if mileage isn’t exceptionally low. The only question is whether the reserve is set at a reasonable level.

I never really cared for the yellow, but these cars are great and I think those tail lights are sharper than the larger squared ones. I’ve always called them the IROC taillights for lack of knowing which Camaros got them. This is a couple years newer than the really nice brown Z from the other day and I think the updates help it. Nice car with a more powerful drivetrain.

There’s been a doppelganger of this car locally for as long as I can remember, and I always thought it was sharp. Even back when I disliked these and thought they were lame back in high school. For some reason I have always had a soft spot for camaros with a touch of gold. Gives them a bit of class I suppose.

This rare yellow sets it apart in the best way possible from all of the other colors. I feel it will continues to add value. Even more rare to see same model year Firebirds and Trans Ams in yellow.

Believe it or not, this Cadillac Diva owned a brand new Camaro Berlinetta back in 1984. Equipped with the infamous “lollipop” radio on the console, and a digital dash, that car was in the shop every other week.
Got rid of it in 1985.

Always liked the interior in the Berlinetta, especially that radio! Knowing GM’s build quality back then I’ll bet it was a nightmare though.

This is the end of full door glass styling, despite the mirror still mounted to the DOOR. I’d rather see a vent window, like on the ’67, than the plastic
what-is-it-doing-there piece behind the mirror, where there should be glass.
