Your Safety Is Our Business: 1964 Chevrolet Impala

1964 Chevy Impala Police Car

No, this Barn Find isn’t a real police car, although it was used by the Florence, Alabama police department and that’s where it’s currently located. Offered for sale here on eBay at $2,200 with no reserve, this big Chevy seems like an inexpensive way to purchase a replica police car. Apparently the Florence police dressed this one up as a replica to use in parades. It starts and runs but has some rust, especially in the trunk floor. The bubble light and siren work, though, but be sure they are legal to use in your area if you are interested; some states have laws against their use even on a replica.

1964 Chevy Impala Engine

Despite the car being a little bit rough around the edges, I’m inspired by two things under the hood. For one, that’s a huge siren (at least I think it’s the siren) near the radiator. Secondly, that’s an air conditioning compressor that’s still hooked up on the passenger side. Looks like a cool police cruiser to me!

I would strip the cop look and restore it to a more conservative 64.

Definitely not the factory A/C compressor so I wouldn’t be surprised to see an under-dash unit inside. I’d pull it all out, plug the holes and open the windows, unless I could score an original factory setup.

Speaking of the non-factory A/C compressor, did anyone notice the mud wasp’s on the top of the belt pulley’s?

And its sporting full wheel trims, rather than dog dishes. I could live with
under dash AC- it works so well since there is no ducting.

    Now…

If it had a 409 It could somewhat impersonate the confidence/swagger of a true highway pursuit car…

(minus the upgraded suspension, sway bars, cooling etc)

    Barney Fife would be giddy…

    Sorry…squirrel…can’t see it selling.

    I’m just sayin’,
