Brand New National Lampoons Family Truckster!

If you’re like me, the 1983 classic National Lampoon’s Vacation starring Chevy Chase is a must-watch whenever it is on television. With the most popular in the “Vacation” series probably being Christmas Vacation, the first movie is a cult classic that introduced us to the Griswold family as they traveled cross country to reach the fictional Wally World theme park. Their mode of transportation was a “Metalic Pea, Wagon Queen Family Truckster.” A little over a year ago, we featured another replica of the Family Truckster here on Barn Finds. That one was heading to auction at Barrett-Jackson and ended up selling for over $100,000! The Truckster you see here was made in 2020 by Bandit Movie Cars and it can be found here on eBay with an asking price just shy of $40,000. That seems like a bargain compared to the price the other car realized last year. Take a look at this one and see what you think. Thanks to Roger for the tip on this wagon!

“You think you hate it now but wait til’ you drive it.” is one of the classic lines delivered by comedic actor Eugene Levy. Levy plays the salesman who sells Clark Griswold (Chase) the car but unfortunately for Griswold, the Wagon Queen Family Truckster is not the car he ordered. Due to the quick staff at the car dealership, Griswold’s trade-in is quickly processed and crushed forcing him to take the Truckster. If you’ve never seen Vacation, check it out. You won’t be disappointed!

The interior looks just like it probably did when the Griswold’s drove it off the lot back in the 80s!

While it appears that Bandit Movie Cars mainly focuses on cars with a Smokey and the Bandit theme, they also have produced cars such as this Family Truckster and other movie cars. This looks like a really cool car and would get a ton of attention where ever you take it. What do you think?

Is the mummified body of Aunt Edna included in the sale?

It’s missing the dog leash tied to the back bumper, so it’s a no-sale for me!

  3. Not to burst anyone’s bubble, but if you buy this with some wild fantasy about having a Christie Brinkley type in a Ferrari keeping you company motoring down the freeway, make no mistake, you’ll do no better than a Chris Christie looking gal in a drop top Miata.

Jeez how many duplicates of this thing exist now? Not as yawn-inducing at a show as a Starsky & Hutch Torino replica…but getting there.

Is that a Ford underneath? It would be nice to read some of the details, engine, trans, etc.

  8. All that time spent on details and they couldn’t get the grill opening to look like the one in the movie pic.

  9. Clark’s trade in was a Vista Cruiser, I think. They crushed the wrong car.

If you watch the opening to “Married With Children” you can see the Family Truckster leaving Chicago. It’s in the opening credits.

If still too rich for your blood, maybe a 1/18th scale? https://www.supercar1.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=9121

  20. The real family truckster had crank windows. Remember Clark, right after hearing gunfire in East St. Louis saying “Roll ’em up”?
Incorrect wheel covers (except for the missing one lol), all sorts of out of place details.
Not a fan of metallic pea lol.
