The Z31-era of the classic Nissan 300ZX remains one of the more accessible chapters in Nissan’s sports car history. For years, it has been stationed at the bottom of the food chain, but this appears to be changing as of late. The 300ZX was sure to eventually rise in value and appreciation by collectors, especially as younger enthusiasts began to buy their high school dream cars. This 1984 Nissan 300ZX Turbo looks absolutely stunning in vibrant dark green paint and shows low mileage of just under 50,000. The Nissan is listed here on eBay with bids to $10,100 and no reserve.
The high production volume of this era of the Z car has been a driving force behind low prices. As someone who regularly frequents salvage yards, the Z31 is one of the few vintage models that will still occasionally show up as a wreck or a garage find-type salvage recovery and is the only old-school model aside from a W123-era Mercedes that will end up in a pick-and-pull in 2022. The good news is opinions seem to be shifting a bit, at least to the point that survivor-quality examples like this car are getting the bids they deserve. I love that paint job and don’t recall seeing too many Z cars from the ’80s in this shade of green.
A cloth interior awaits the next owner, which is a change of pace from the usual leather interior we see in the higher-end models like this one, which are usually the turbocharged cars or some sort of an anniversary special. It wasn’t a forgone conclusion that this grand tourer would come with a stick, so it’s great to see the combination of three pedals and the turbo powerplant. The car looks every bit as original as its low mileage would suggest, and it’s clear a previous owner took great pains to keep the cosmetics in excellent shape. Just look at the steering wheel – no signs of grubby fingerprints here.
The seller claims this is a lifelong California car with just one owner. The Z31 was one of those cars that collectors seem to gravitate to, absolutely convinced that putting one in the garage and barely driving it was the key to automotive riches. Of course, that didn’t work out, but the tides are definitely starting to turn to the point where an exceptionally nice Z of this generation will not be a cheap buy. With sharp colors and the right drivetrain configuration, and an amazing vanity plate, it seems likely this 300ZX will move on to owner number two very soon.
