I’ve made little effort to hide my love for ex-municipal vehicles on these pages. Perhaps it’s due to my summers working for the NY Bridge Authority and seeing all the neat equipment socked away in road salt storage facilities and other state buildings. Whatever the motivation, this 1984 Chevy G20 van here on eBay caught my eye as it was clearly a fire rescue vehicle in a previous life, and its condition seems to verify limited use with a straight body and very utilitarian interior. The seller knows very little – in fact, the surroundings seem to indicate it was abandoned at a storage unit farm and now it’s available for $999, with no keys or title. Pair this former fire van with the $999 Firebird we featured this weekend and you’ve got some cheap projects to play with over the winter! Heck, they’re even both in Pennsylvania for easy pick-up!

I buy used van for my maintenance repair business, I have bought many used Gas company service vans, and a few Telephone Company service trucks, I am always in the market for another service van. I bought one a few years back from a local volunteer fire dept which only had 25K miles on it, and after some minor repairs, mainly transmission seals from lack of miles, and the fact it sat for 4 years not used when they finally decided to part with it, it is still part of my fleet and driven it today, not bad for a 20 years old 1 ton GMC van.
