EXCLUSIVE: 1953 Mercedes 220 Project

Seller Description: Solid body and fenders. The doors are there. All of the doors need metal work though… rusted around the bottoms, etc. The front end is all there and solid. The grill shell is inside the car. The bumpers are there too. The engine is lying inside the car… looks to be complete. There’s a carburetor and other items inside the trunk. The transmission has parts.. not a complete working one. The inside is there except for the gauges and front seat. The rear seat and dash and door panels are there. This would make a great donor car or restoration project. The engine is rare and very expensive. Best deal on this $1,100!

That is an OHC engine…….must be an early 220a……if the engine is original.

The truck has to be that 38 listed separately here. I think you can see this car in the background of the truck listing

Sad story here. This is a parts car only. These cars fully restored have minimal value at this point in time. Convertibles and coupes, a different story. Four doors is two too many. I have been baby sitting mine for years waiting for the market to change. So far, no value.
Most mechanicals are available from M-B Classics. Not the body panels which is most likely where the value in this sad car lies. if you have one and need parts here is your chance, otherwise, this rusty former German luxury car will remain very silent and peaceful. “Rust in Peace”…….

This would be a great project. The 220 was top of the line next to the 300. Much nicer and more rare than a 170 or 180. Too far away for me…..otherwise, I would buy it in a heartbeat. A coupe or cabriolet version can sell for well over 100K. This one will never be as valueable but price will go up as the others do. They are also a very good car.

Hmmm, what’s the baddest arse 6 you could get reasonably to go in this? Out of a Supra or something? Something that parts can be had at Auto Zone. Street rod all the way. Just use the body, new frame and everything else. I figure if we’re dreaming, may as well go big.
