While I was attending college at the University of Wyoming, I would often see a Ranchero that clearly had the chassis, engine, and 4×4 system from an large truck installed under it. I often laughed at it (especially when the owner’s girlfriend would literally fall out of the passenger’s seat in an attempt to exit it), but I have to admit I was a bit envious of its off road capability and ridiculous appearance. Well, this 1968 Corvette monster truck isn’t nearly as practical as that Ranchero or even the Mercedes 4×4 we featured, but from a looks standpoint it actually turned out better than either of those. I’m not sure if the Corvette’s fender openings just fit the massive tires better or what? I could actually see this being the star attraction at a monster truck rally! You can find this ridiculous Vette here on eBay in Andalusia, Alabama with a Buy-It-Now of $10k. So would you drive this monstrosity or is this a waste of a perfectly good Corvette 427?

Say it ain’t so…
The only saving grace for me is that the 1968 Vette is considered the worst one ever made, the absolute last one I would want to own. Maybe I should explain that a little, it followed the fantastic Stingray years, was designed without Zora Dontov at the helm and was an abomination. The front and rear sections of the body even fall away from each other, making the doors misalign and that is just the beginning. Zora was brought back to try to save it, but was only marginally successful. This looks like a decent build and looks pretty cool, so I guess…so be it.
Growing up there was a 78 thunderbird running around our town mounted on a full size truck frame. It was decently done but I just never got in to that craze. Even being a 4×4 guy and a Mustang guy the 4×4 Mustang the other day didn’t exactly thrill me. But everyone has their idea of cool and who am I to cut them off at the knees for doing it.
When I was in the Army in Augusta, Ga in the mid to late nineties, I would frequently see a 66 Chevelle 2 door that someone had shortened and sectioned out the back seat, making it a two door, and then set up on a 4×4 frame. This pisses me off almost as much as that did….
When I was in the army in the mid 90’s in Augusta, Ga, I saw a 65 Chevelle that someone had sectioned and removed the rear seat area, making it a very short two seater, and mounted it on a 4×4 truck frame. This pisses me off almost as much as that did…
Some good parts here…but $10K is too much money.
I thought I had the only one on earth? Maybe I have the only Convertible 4×4 Corvette?
stupid waste.
I can’t decide what is more insulting: doing this to a chrome bumper Vette, or the price the guy is asking for it.
And, 68 is absolutely not the worst year Vette made. For that, you have to go have a look at what these became in the mid – late 70s. 68 did suffer from first year maladies, just like the 84, but the 68 is considered a desirable collectible year.
Its just a car.
I’d own it just to hear the complainers.
I’m sure it’d be a fun toy.
Couldn’t agree more, but would prefer this
I’m with you Rspcharger, even more now that they canceled the show for no reason and if they tell me not to do something I’m going to do it just to prove I can.
