This 1986 Ford LTD 5.0 here on eBay for $2,990 is a little newer than we typically feature, but the combo of staid sedan and 5.0 V8 power seemed too good not to mention. The standard Ford LTD was a pretty tepid combo of a slab-sided sedan and parts bin sharing that didn’t exactly set the world on fire. But then an engineer – perhaps depressed that he couldn’t find a suitable car to live out his French Connections fantasies with – got the bright idea to shoehorn the Mustang’s V8 into the fleet-ready LTD. Maybe that’s not exactly how it happened, but I always like to think there’s a lone wolf in every R&D studio who makes cars like this a reality. Regardless, with less than 100K miles on the clock, it wouldn’t surprise me if this LTD was actually a grandma-owned garage find. Does a torquey V8 under the hood make up for this car’s otherwise uninspiring accommodations?
3.8 V-6 according to the ad, the other downside on this model is 4 lug wheels even on the V-8.
ebay listing shows seller has made revisions so they may have listed it as a V8 then changed to a V6. seller has 60 vehicles on ebay right now. interesting inventory. as for this car it could still be a nice daily driver if everything works. nice find.
I thought the 84-85 LTD LX’s were the only v-8 fox platform LTDs…???
Guys, this is a weird one – my apologies. It was written up a day ago and the seller had it listed as a 5.0 V8-equipped car. Apparently, they didn’t have it in the first place or sold it and replaced it with another.
I had one of thirty years ago as a company owned vehicle. Very nice well made vehicle.
And they did make these with the 5.0–quick back in the day!
As mundane as Detroit was during the late 70’s and thru the 80’s they did put out a few decent cars, some were just nice family cars but had some get up and go. I borrowed my dad’s 85 Mercury Gran Marquee to take the family to Florida and I tell you that was one nice car. Just that one trip and I feel in love with it.
Looking at the engine compartment it is hard to believe there is an engine under the miles of hoses. It would make a good to and from car and I wonder if the chauffeur in the drivers seat in the pictures comes with it?
A friend of mine had one of these with the police interceptor package with a 5.0 high output Mustang GT engine. He bought it from the Florida Highway Patrol….It also had the factory alloy’s found on the Mustang LX 5.0. Not a bad car at all….was a true sleeper!

No.
Had one back then, good family hauler, not bad interior, looks for the time. Could get the old I6, V6 or 5.0,
The V6, (this engine) is not a cologne motor, head gasket/intake gaskets were problematic. did in ours as I remember.
As a possible swap candidate, could be REAL sleeper. Ford chasing euro sedan status. Can Fox pedal box fit for T-56? 5 lugs would probably just swap over also? The Malibu wagon from earlier in week could also be a fun swap candidate (Eldo’ in the back seat anyone?).
Of course these are just old cars, yet! LoL!!
