It’s reported that over 76k Essex Challenger 6 Series Coupes were produced in 1930. The owner refers to this one as a 1930 Essex Super 6 2 door Coupe. This is another one of the many stalled projects that are ready for some hearty soul to pick up and more forward. Listed here on craigslist in Providence, Road Island and priced at $5K OBO this Essex is in pieces and waiting for some love.
This was the owner’s father’s restoration project. The restoration began some 40 years ago and it has been sitting in, were else, the barn ever since. According to the owner the engine still turns. It’s nice to see that the oil can is still were it’s suppose to be.
The owner says that he has most of the parts for the car. Some assembly will be required. There is no rot and only surface rust. The interior needs to be redone. If you want one you, will need to source a back seat, it is one of the missing piece to this puzzle.
Here you have a 40 or so year old puzzle that is waiting to be put back together, but are you up to the challenge? If you go to check the car out, you maybe able to procure some other interesting finds to add to your collection as well.

Now, here is a genuine antique car. This will look great restored to original and make an eye-turner as a daily driver! Wish it were closer to So. Cal.
That cooling system upper rad hose manifold set up is quit different than anything I’ve ever seen on an engine.
76,000 of these were produced in the first year of the Great Depression?
Looks like a 2-door sedan to me! Very cool car, I hope someone takes it on who can do it justice!
I don’t see the water pump, could this have been a thermo-siphon design? Were Essex’s part of the Hudson family?
Water pump should be on lower right side of engine, at the front.
Essex was a Hudson product, kinda a smaller version of the big Hudson.
Hudson produced the Essex from 1919-1932 as their lower priced brand. Then, for some inexplicable reason, they dropped Essex and brought out the Terraplane. Essex is credited with being the first affordable closed car.
