First Year Front Wheel Drive: 1967 Cadillac Eldorado

Eldorados have long been one of the quintessential Cadillacs. Of all the models available throughout the years, regardless of generation, the Eldorado is the car that always stands out to me. Perhaps its the unique style they always seem to possess when compared to other Cadillac models, or maybe its something else. In 1966, the Oldsmobile Toronado was the first American front-wheel-drive car since the Cord 810. In 1967, the completely redesigned Eldorado followed suit, with the Oldsmobile front-wheel-drive system adapted for the Cadillac 429 V8. That makes this particular year Eldorado an important part of American automotive history! Find it here on eBay with a Buy It Now price of $2,500 in Overland Park, Kansas.

The mileage on this Cadillac is listed as 47,780 but based on the condition of the seats I’m going to assume its 147,780. This car has definitely seen a lot of use, and has been well-loved! However the rest of the interior, such as the door panels, armrests, etc. are all in excellent condition. The dash appears to be in surprisingly good condition, considering the car is located in Kansas and likely has been for some time. The steering wheel is showing some wear, but the emblem placement on the center pad really stands out to me. The gauge cluster is very 1967, but I have to say that the rest of the interior is much more modern. When new, this would’ve been quite the car to own!

This car appears largely complete, inside and out, and the engine still bears what appears to be an original air conditioning compressor. I think it’s unlikely to function, however all of the parts look to be present for repair if you want your Cadillac to have A/C! The new driveline coupled with complete restyling helped make the 1967 Eldorado its own car, rather than looking like a dressed up Deville. Though the Cadillac 429 had been used in the Eldorado since the fourth generation, this one was coupled to a chain-driven front-wheel-drive system making it a complete departure from previous Eldorados.

It looks to me that the seller is a car person, which comes as no surprise! This Cadillac seems to have very little rust, with the exception of some small surface rust spots here and there. This car looks like an excellent place to start for a mild project, as it appears to have all of its exterior trim and lenses. I’m not sure if it is wearing its original paint, but I like the color! The seller claims this car has four new tires, and is a running project car. I would be all over this if I were in the market for a project, because for $2,500 this car looks darn solid. Would you drive it like it sits, or restore it to its former glory?

First year for the front wheel drive Eldorados, and perhaps the best looking of the bunch. No gimmicks! i.e. Padded final tops, ginormous hood ornaments etc. Clean sharp lines, smooth powerful V8, great ride, even handled better than it’s RWD sisters. If you can’t tell, I like this! Not looking for a project now, but I really hope someone is. Great find, and at a decent price. Now that is rare!

This is beautiful! I don’t think I’ve ever seen one until now. Man, those styling lines are just gorgeous. This redefines a “cool” cruiser.

Rats! I just dropped some major dough to finish up my 68 Mercury Cougar XR-7 GT. If I had the room I would jump on this deal. The 1967 Eldorado is just a gorgeous car and is in my opinion one of the best of Bill Mitchell’s designs. This one even comes with the optional disc brakes which are needed to stop this 4,700 lb vehicle.

    Beautiful car and excellent buy!
Suffers some interior water damage at the rear package tray from the back glass leaking, but no visible rust if the trunk floor has survived. Carb not original and a 472 cu air cleaner. Not a big deal.
If the drive train needs only minor work, it would be easy to make a nice car again and a great investment also.
U-Ship quote is $650 to get it back to Florida.. I am thinking about it hard!

Think real hard. This is a statement car from possibly the most influential stylist in American motoring history. It deserves paint, upholstery, and working air. Great find at a bargain price.

I had completely forgotten about these and how gorgeous they can be. Has to be one of the most undervalued classics.

Did anyone else notice the 66/67 Olds Toronado right behind the Eldorado in the first photo?

I had a 68 back in 83. Triple black. Mom had to borrow it one day because I had her 73 Caprice torn apart to put ball joints in it. “Take the Eldo”, I said. “I’m not driving that old thing.” Was the reply. Yeah. Took me two years to get it back.

My Dad had a 68 Eldorado when I was 18, in 1974, it was a blast to drive and cruse So. Cal on Friday nights. To see smoke come out from the front wheels when you burnt rubber had the crowd screaming. Those were the days. I returned home one day after smoking the tires a few times and my Dad had come home early, you could still smell the rubber, he told me if I kept it up, I would be buying new tires next payday. I never did that again.
