Barn Find! Well, that’s what the seller says; although I’m thinking that this one has been parked outside the barn for a few decades. This 1964 Chevrolet Impala wagon is here on eBay with an opening bid of $1,750, which means that as soon as you bid $1,750 for it you’ll own it. It’s located in a field in San Antonio, TX. Luckily, it’s dry there, but this one will need a lot of work (Captain Obvious, here).
It goes without saying, but the seller mentions it anyway; this Impala wagon is unrestored. And, according to the seller – are you sitting down? It has great patina! Unfortunately, it doesn’t have a hood and at least half of its glass is missing so rain and rodents have had a spot to call home for who knows how long.
This one is not for the faint of heart, or the faint of bank account. It’s most likely been relegated to parts-car status by now, but some of the parts look good other than a heavy “patina” of rust. My aunt and uncle had a ’64 Impala wagon in a dark-teal color and it was a great car. This is the color this car originally would have been, GM 912 – silver blue metallic.
I see no problems here: next slide! Apparently, the gauge cluster is missing and as you can tell there’s a real problem going on inside of this Mousetel 6. I can not imagine what a task it will be to clean the fire ants and other critters from inside of this thing. Is it worth restoring?
I’m sure that vehicles in worse condition than this “AWESOME BARNFIND” with a matching numbers 327 and powerglide have been nut-and-bolt restored to Pebble Beach quality, but, is this one worth it?
Way more trouble then it’s worth. Buy a running and driving one for 10K and call it a day.
It isn’t a BUY IT NOW ebay auction! IF your the ONLY bidder at $1,750 and the auction ends, you’ll get it! Frankly, I don’t see $1,750.
At 1st, I thought this may have been one of the “Lambrecht” cars, and judging by the price and condition, someone must have followed that auction thinking, “hey, pa, we got one of those Chevy’s in the back, don’t we?” Pretty sad here, and like MH sez, there’s probably many of these in running condition. One of the most popular Chevy’s. Sorry, parts only here.
I hate patina. Wish they would still call it peeling paint and surface rust.
$1000 too much. It’s cool, but…
No bids at all yet…
that will buff right out…….
Ha, I wonder if anyone is looking for an 1864 Chevy. Well, at least that’s what it’s listed as in the Item Specifics.
Maybe that’s how it got so rusty? ;-)
Would this make it the first horseless carriage?
FYI – San Antonio is NOT a dry climate. It’s rated one of the “sweatiest cities in the US”, and humidity & rainfall are high there, a 2 hour drive from the Gulf of Mexico. That’s most likely a parts car and looks like the good stuff is already gone. Just sayin…
I wouldn’t touch it with a barge pole.
I know. I live just north of there. Last year, we got sixty inches of rain, about double the usual. And yes, its quite humid being so close to the Gulf. In fact, today, the wind is blowing from the south…
Oh, forgot – that 327 probably is not in great shape – no hood, no air cleaner and rain pouring into the cylinders through the carb for who knows how many years.
This is certainly not worth $1750. This car has one wheel in the crusher.
Ok, how to match the PATINA on the rest of the car with the replacement hood?
