We often see these custom conversion vans in deplorable condition, bearing the scars of a vehicle you can live in or use for contractor jobs, and in some cases, both. Either way, the result is a vehicle with a few too many clues as to past inhabitants. Thankfully, this 38,000 mile 1984 Dodge Ram Van survivor here on eBay is a reminder of how cool these slab-sided vans can be.
This conversion van by Sunset, still one of the largest conversion van specialists in the U.S., came to the seller by way of an estate sale. What’s incredible to me is you can see in a preserved example like this one just how high-end these vans could be. From the unique alloy wheels to the custom paint and graphics, the level of detail is impressive. Of course, the interior is where your mind will truly be blown.
That looks more comfortable than any living room I have ever sat in. Those chairs put the Lazy in La-Z-Boy. There’s a pull-out sofa in the back which is the birthplace of every If this van’s a-rockin’…joke ever told. Complete with faux-woodgrain tables, full carpeting, drapes, a TV and recessed lighting, this is truly a home on wheels.
I can see why these conversion vans were at one time extremely popular. In clean, fresh condition, who wouldn’t want to tailgate in one of these, or take it to the drive-in? Heck, even a cross-country drive looks downright appealing in a rig like this. Bidders apparently agree, as the number is already approaching $13K with over three days left on the auction. Very, very tempting.
