Seller’s Description: 1940 Ford Deluxe V8 sedan

2 owner car that has always been in southeast CT.

Gladys was the first owner, purchased the car brand new in 1940, and drove it up into the late fifties, early sixties from what I can glean from the glovebox paperwork. At that point, she purchased a new car and the 40 Deluxe got parked in the garage. Some 35 years later it was found in her garage and the current owner, Herb, bought the car. He brought the car back to his garage and cleaned her up, got her running again, and now after 40 years of ownership, feels it’s time to part ways, as he’s getting a bit older and feels it’s time to thin the fleet a little.

This nearly all original car (it has had some paintwork done) runs the original 221 85HP flathead V8 and three-speed manual transmission. This car was purchased with New England weather in mind when Gladys checked off the fog light and heater options. It had to have some style too, so she ordered the bumper wings, rear-wheel spats, grill guard, vinyl and mohair seat covers, and the radio (which still sort of works, it’s definitely serviceable). The car is also equipped with electric wipers.

The car runs flawlessly. Flip the switch to on, pull the choke a hair, hit the starter button, and the car fires right up and runs smooth.

The car has been maintained well over the last 40 years of ownership by Herb, but not doing anything to alter its originality.

It does have a newer exhaust on it and has had a recent tune-up and brake work done.

She drives straight and easily accelerates up to 50 mph and can cruise along at 60 without any issue. The hydraulic drum brakes bring her to a stop with ease.

The odometer reads 24,212 miles and based on the overall condition of the interior and body panels, that is very probably accurate… it still has the leather rear spring covers!

The body and frame do show some corrosion but no rot. A lot of folks love this patina, all original look and that proved true a few years ago when it took first in its class at a local car show.

There are a lot of these out there that have been hot-rodded and customized but you very rarely see an all original piece of automotive history like this one.

Super solid and ready to hop in and enjoy.

The asking price is $15,000
