Seller’s Description: 1959 Ford Thunderbird (Squarebird) I am representing this car for the Widow of the late owner. He purchased the car about 10 years ago in Mesa Arizona. It has spent many years in the Arizona desert, but the history prior is unknown to us. The late owner did install the engine dress-up kit as well as the carburetor. We believe he is also the one that redid the rear end and installed new rear springs. We do not have the receipts for the work. The paint and restoration work were completed prior to his ownership.
Condition report: Body and paint: The paint appears to be single stage. We buffed and polished the paint and it shines very nice. We do not see obvious evidence of panel replacement or heavy filler. The sides appear straight and not wavy. The chrome and stainless have been cleaned up and show well. One of the door handles is not attached properly, and the other one has a button that sticks. There are nicks and scratches on the car. This is not a show paint job. I would consider this driver quality.
Interior: The front seats are not original, but have been recovered in leather with the rear seat done to match. They are comfortable and fit well. They look to be a GM product maybe from a late model Cadillac or upper trim level Chevrolet. Chrome trim and stainless show well. The headliner is loose-fitting.
Chassis and suspension: I do not see evidence of panel replacement but there is heavy undercoating on the bottom of the car. The exhaust has been replaced in the last few years. The rear end appears to have been rebuilt. It is very clean and has no leaks. The springs look new. The car does not sit even. This Tbird drives and tracks straight. The tires appear to be old but they hold air and we have driven it about 180 miles.
Engine and Transmission: The A/C compressor and or alternator has a bearing out and is noisy. Motor runs well. Wires look new, battery looks new, Carb looks like a newer 4 barrel Rochester. Transmission shifts properly, and the fluid appears new. When warm the starter is hard to turn. I do not know if the motor or transmission is original to the car.
