Seller’s Description: 1954 Nash Metropolitan convertible

We know the story of roughly the last 30 years of this little Metropolitan runabout.

It was purchased in the 90’s by previous owner, who had her painted and did some work to her, like patching the passenger floor, adding spring spacers, brakes and brake lines, and replaced muffler – back. He drove her and enjoyed for quite a few years but then about 10-12 years ago, she was parked and hadn’t moved since until the Foster Father of Orphaned Automotive Souls found her and brought her back to life.

New motor mounts were installed, she was cleaned and buffed, valves adjusted and the water pump was greased.

At some pint in her life, she had an engine transplant to a larger 1500 series up from the original 1200 series engine.

The Nash Metropolitan was quite the amalgam of manufacturers and designers.

Nash teamed up with British Austin Motors and with Italian designer Pinin Farina and all combined to produce this little car. It was designed in both Italy and the US and then assembled in England with many chassis and engine bits from the Austin Motor Company.

This one shows 7506 miles on the odometer, however, with the engine transplant, it is unknown what the true mileage is.

The paint is in very nice condition and the spartan interior is pretty darned good condition too. Unfortunately, the rubberized weatherstrip adhesive for the soft top liquefied and leaked down on to the visors. The steering wheel is cracked in a couple spots, but the carpets, seats, door cards, dash, the one gauge (speedometer with integrated fuel gauge) are all in rather nice shape.

The convertible top is also in quite good condition and folds up/down rather easily.

Turn the key, adjust the choke, pull the start button and with a couple pumps of the gas, she fires right up and then warms to a smooth idle. The three on the tree shifts easily and she accelerates up to 60 MPH in just about 22 seconds… OK, she’s not fast but she’s a blast to drive around town and out on secondary roads. She’ll get waves and smiles wherever she goes.

(In the video the fuel pump starts making noise as the tank was just about empty)

Her worst aspect is her undercarriage. Although rusty, it’s not rotted anywhere and she rides and drives just fine for a car that has just turned 70 years old.

You can take her out and enjoy her just as she is, and with some deep cleaning and detailing she might take home a ribbon. She is also a very solid foundation if someone was contemplating a restoration.

Asking price is $13,200
