Seller’s Description: 1959 Austin Mini
I’m calling this a “Garage Find” because you can find it in my garage, ha ha.
I bought this Mini 5 years ago, with the intention of having a streetcar that I could also Autocross. I’ve been actively involved with open-wheel vintage racing for many years, and never could find the time to work on the Mini. I now need the space in my garage to work on my race cars, so the Mini has to go!
I have purchased many parts that I will include – new fender flares, new carpet kit, a used set of
Mercury 10X6 mag wheels, used intake manual with SU Carb, tow bar, repair manuals, and a fitted cover. It has a MA title in my name.
According to the number, the engine is a 1275 from a 1989 MG Metro Sport
Serial #12HD24 126565
It has been sitting in dry storage and needs to be refreshed. I drove it onto the trailer when I picked it up, but it hasn’t been started since then. It needs the usual – tires, seatbelts, fluids, brakes bled, etc.
Note: the car has Mini Cooper emblems on the trunk, which is obviously incorrect.
Here’s a description of the Mini that I got from the previous owner:
“This is an original 1st-year production car, not a re-body. It was restored in the early 2000s by the owner whom I purchased it from. He had decided that he wanted to race it in the vintage series and went about the restoration with that in mind. It has had all the floor pans replaced as well as the sills, there is an internal roll cage that was custom-fitted to the car, and he restored the sub frames.
The front drums have been replaced with rotors, and the pedal box was replaced with an aluminum racing box as pictured.
There was originally a fuel cell in the trunk which has been removed, and a conventional tank installed. The battery is currently still mounted in the rear seat area but can easily be returned to the trunk or moved if you wish to race it. The aluminum wheels are custom made one-offs. It has a fiberglass bonnet.
The original engine was blown while racing a few years ago, and at that time he decided to replace it with a 1275 which it currently has in it which runs great. It has a Mikuni carburetor installation which I am amazed at how well it runs with. I have owned several Minis and currently still own another 1989 German import”.
