Seller’s Description: 1959 Ford Thunderbird Hardtop “J” Code 430
A true barn find 1959 Ford Thunderbird Hardtop with Rare “J” code MEL 430 cu V8 Engine with 3-speed automatic transmission.
This all original and complete 2-tone Baltic Blue and White Thunderbird was pulled into the barn/shed in 1977 when the owner went away to college.
She was the second owner who got it from her Grandfather. The car was purchased at Peterson Ford in Encinitas and spent its entire life here in the San Diego area.
It’s been in dry storage for over 44 years until this past July 4th weekend when we stumbled across it. We pulled the T-Bird out and power washed her. Since then I have rebuilt the 4 barrel Carter carburetor, squirted Marvel Mystery oil down all cylinders, changed oil
and filter, new plugs, coil and wires, new battery. Compounded and waxed the body and it looks great!
The engine is complete spins freely! The motor turns with the key, and there is spark but we have not started it yet.
The body is in great condition, original paint that shines nicely, and there’s no rust at all! All glass is intact and clean. All lights work, power seats and power windows.
The good: all original and complete. No rust! Rare “J” code 430 cu V8 engine. (Only about 4 % of 1959 T-birds came with the 430 engine). Interior is in good shape. Nice overall condition.
It needs: a new radiator (original leaks badly) Will need a new water pump. Will need brake work.
Unfortunately, I don’t have the time (or skills) to complete the work needed to get her back on the road, so she’s up for sale.
Asking $7500/OBO
Thanks,
Larry
