Seller’s Description: 1969 Cadillac Coupe de Ville. Mostly an original, running car. Major restoration work in the mid-eighties.
Solid-body with some rust aft of the rear window. Two-owner car. I bought it in 1979, it was my daily driver for about 8 years. It was sent to a body shop on Long Island, NY where all existing rust was removed via parts replacement. Two new fenders and one full quarter panel was replaced, all chrome was show chrome replated, and the car was shot with Factory number lacquer paint. (San Mateo Red). A new vinyl top was installed. It was used very sparingly after the restoration, and then came the kids. it mostly sat in a concrete block garage near my home on Long Island for about 12 years, when my oldest son asked me if he could drive it for his twenty-first birthday. I am now retired but I was a lifelong auto technician, and Shop Owner and finished my working career as an instructor in a Vocational Automotive Technical School. When the car was laid up I had installed Stabl, which most of you know is a fuel preservative. Well after sitting for over twelve years I installed a new battery, freed up the frozen accelerator linkage, and it started and after about five minutes the clicking stopped and my feet felt like I was standing in a pail of gas. Turned out the fuel lines were rotted, and north of the fuel pump to the carburetor, the fuel lines were leaking like a summer shower in Disney World. I had it towed to Whitestone NY where I worked and at my school and proceeded to repair everything that had not withstood the sands of time. My son did not get to drive it on his 21st birthday, but before the year was out he did. To the best of my knowledge this car needs-
Rust repair on the rear valance after the rear window, Air Conditioning Compressor, (it is seized) the seats and interior are original and very tired. The Vinyl Top was changed but it sports a Center seam that was not OEM. The headliner is OEM and faded and tired. The engine is original and matches the VIN. The transmission was changed with a rebuilt updated unit so it doesn’t match the VIN. The engine had a new Timing Chain and set of upgraded gears back in the eighties during the refurbishing project along with a new oil pump, and front and rear main seal. The front end was completely replaced including all four balls joints, and new control arm bushings, (top and bottom). idler arm center link and all tie rods, front and rear springs, and shocks were replaced in the eighties. There is about 2,000 miles on it after it was redone in the mid eighties. It is now retired and living in a retirement community in central Florida. It is titled and insured and is driven about once a month at this time.
