Seller’s Description: For Sale is my 1971 Chevrolet Monte Carlo previously owned by Grandmother. Literally, this is the true definition of Jan and Dean’s “The little old lady from Pasadena” as the car was purchased new in Los Angeles and cared for as a housewife’s car. With a 350 V-8 and a TH350 Automatic 3 Speed Transmission it made for a great grocery getter and weekly trips to the Bingo Hall. With just over 50,000 original miles when I became the executor and curator of the car it was an instant joy to drive cruising back to the South Bay at 70-75 Mph, plenty of power and smooth. Based on the G-platform of the popular Pontiac Grand Prix, Chevrolet introduced the Monte Carlo in 1970. It was Chevy’s first automobile marketed in the personal luxury space and it packed a punch.
Some have called it the Gentleman’s Chevelle and the car’s debut was in 1970 and ran to 1972 in this 1st design and model. The Monte Carlo is a factory A/C Car with front disc brakes and power brakes as well as power steering. This is a Southern California car and has ZERO Rust and starts right up with a brand new Die Hard battery. There is no smoke on start-up, no leaks and I have a file an inch thick with maintenance receipts from the Pasadena/Altadena area. Tires are near new, will drive anywhere and is very reliable. All gauges work and all lights work, a non-smoker car (rare for a 1970’s car). I have serviced the car, changed oil, filters and various other small things. The intention was to fully restore it but life takes twists and turns and weddings and college tuition are not cheap.
The car currently has a hazy paint finish because the car was always parked outside the house in a driveway when Grandmother owned it. The ambient temperature in Southern California allows for this but the air and smog took its toll over the years on the paint which now has a hazy patina. There are some scratches and minor dings around the car (Grandma) and I have purposely left it this way. Since then it has been stored in a garage with a car cover on it and taken out sparingly on weekends and cruise nights. The Drivers side bolster shows wear and tear and so does the headrest for the driver’s side (presumably from Grandma’s hair rollers) No rips or tears anywhere else such as dashboard, headliner and remainder of seats.
The car is absolutely 100% original and unmolested. A great contestant for a full restoration job, perhaps hot rod it, a great platform for a restomod or a make it a low rider or just keep it as is. The car has Lo-Jack and needs to be activated by the new owner. The car comes with a clean CA Title and classic Blue and Yellow CA plates in my name and is Smog exempt with a long file of maintenance receipts.
