Seller’s Description: The history we know on this car is that is started in CA and came east rather quickly.
She spent most of her time along the river in Essex, CT.
The current owner bought her 5 years ago with only 69000 miles on the clock.
She was straight and pretty rust free.
As a professional metal worker, he couldn’t leave well enough alone though.. he had a vision for a sleek, mild custom Karmann Ghia.
He stripped her down to expose any issues, filled in the bumper coves and custom made slim “nerf style” bars. He removed the chrome trim along the side to accentuate the beautiful lines that flow from the quarter panel haunches down the side to the front wheel wells. He kept the Raveena Green and went with black accents and a black interior. Almost everything in the interior is new. He also added a rear seat that folds down and allows access to an ample storage are behind the seat. In the “frunk”(front trunk) he kept things as they were, just cleaned everything up. On the chassis he did the same, adding a textured bed liner once everything was fully cleaned and painted. He added an Empi disc bake conversion at all four corners and a 2” drop spindle at the front, that has just finished self clearancing. (on HARD braking she may still rub a little) .
Porsche “phone dial” wheels were added and wrapped with Mastercraft radials in 185/65/15 size.
All other trim on the outside and emblems, logos, were either replaced or blasted and coated in semi-gloss black.
Finally, out back, the engine was pulled and fully rebuilt. It is a 1600 dual port unit that reportedly has been massaged a little, but still running the single carb, upgraded to a Redline unit. There may be just a 1000 miles on this car since the restoration.
He’s decided to move her on to a new home as he just doesn’t get out and drive her enough.
This car is nearly perfect. no chips in the “lime green” paint, the black trim the same.
The interior is mostly new, with the steering wheel being original and suffering from a couple of cracks and the door handles showing some wear. The window rollers have been replaced with a sort of billet unit, polished.
Many of the original parts (some trim, the wheels, spindles, brakes) will come with the car.
I’d say this car is a super solid #2, very close to a number 1 car.
Starts easily, runs/idles smooth, accelerates well, the 4 speed manual shifts easily, the lock out reverse isn’t difficult to find either, 4 wheel disc brakes halt her nicely.
Awesome looking car, great runner and driver.
Probably not going to see one like her anytime soon.
The asking price on this great little German art piece is $22,000.
