Seller’s Description: 3 Owner, 20K Mile, L82, 4 Speed 1979 Chevrolet Corvette
This car was built in St. Louis, MO. She was one of the last 10 to roll off the assembly line that year and one of only 14,000 or so with the L82 option.
It went out to NJ, and was sold through Malcom Konner Chevrolet to the first owner. The first owner had her for quite a few years but only amassed 15-18,000 miles. The car was then sold to a John Deere tractor magnate out in OH and he tucked her into a collection and aside from regular maintenance, hardly drove her at all, adding only a couple thousand miles. A few years ago the current owner purchased her with only 20,000 miles on the odometer and he hasn’t driven much either. Now due to some health issues, he’s decided to move her on to a new home.
From the factory, this car came very well optioned – looking at the original window sticker one can see – the L82 220 HP, V8 (the second owner did have some tuning work done to her and had the car dynoed at 247 HP and 341 TQ), black leather bucket seats, power steering, 4 wheel power disc brakes, tilt wheel, gymkhana suspension, AC (the compressor kicks in but she’ll need an R12 recharge to blow cold ), power windows, power steering, aluminum wheels, mirrored glass removable roof panels (T-Tops), Muncie 4 speed manual transmission, limited slip differential with the 3.36 gears, power locks, HD battery, power antenna, F&R spoilers, and an AM/FM stereo 8 track.
The battery was recently replaced with a DieHard. The BFG Radial T/A’s are dated 2001 but practically haven’t seen the light of day since then, have less then a 1000 miles on them, as they still have the nubs and the blue soap stripe on the treads.
The black paint shines like a mirror and one can their reflection just as well as a mirror. There are no swirl marks but there are maybe 5 or 6 small chips that have been touched up and are not discernible at even 5 feet away. There is also an odd issue probably from heat where the rear wing is slight distorted.
The interior is in excellent condition as well, with no wear on the pedals, no wear on the seat bolsters or armrests and minimal wear on the painted silver trim inside, the ashtray lid does have a few small chips.
Settle down into the wrap around leather sport seats, press the clutch in, tap the accelerator twice, turn the key and the 350 Chevy small block fires right to life and soon settles into a smooth idle.
Press the clutch again, slip her into first, let off and away you go… tromp on that gas pedal and she’ll chirp the tires as the 341 lb ft of torque set you back – that looong black nose leading the way. She handles great and the 255/60/R15’s grab the road nicely. The gymkhana suspension soaks up the curves and does it’s best to smooth out the bumps, but this is 45 year old technology – transverse leaf in back and coils springs and shocks in front.
This beauty is pretty much a time capsule. With only 14K L82’s made, how many still have less than 21,000 miles? I’d say very few and even less that are optioned out like this one.
Aside from the aforementioned recharge on the AC, this car is ready to get in and go, cruise nights, car shows, cars and coffee. Keep her local and only out on sunny days and the number of miles won’t increase that much.
There are enough small things to keep this car from being considered a #1 concourse winning car but she is a solid #2 car and with that, the low mileage and high option list, the owner is asking $35,000 for her.
Any questions, for many more photos and video, to schedule a time to see her in person, or simply to make an offer, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
