Seller’s Description: 1980 Scout II Traveler. Running and driving. I purchased this in 2011, where I had the engine, a SD33T, professionally rebuilt by Forced Air Technologies in Phoenix, AZ. The motor also has a better (than stock) intake layout , to include an intercooler, which would become functional after using a hood scoop. The motor is essentially brand new, where I have only done a few hours at idle for breaking in. I drove it around 2.5 miles for the photos you see here.

Exhaust is a straight 3 in pipe. Power steering has been fully rebuilt, and sway bar custom fabricated to use heim joints found in Ford Rangers. The engine harness is new. Transmission could use a fluid changeout. I would go through fluid changes for wheels/diffs/suspension next. Brake system has been upgraded, converting to a hydraulic system (but it still has drum brakes). Fuel system has been completely gone through. I converted the front grill to a 70’s era one, as I liked the metal look more. The stock 80’s style was prone to cracking anyway, before we figured out longer lasting plastic.

The wiring for accessories could use TLC-this was the next phase of the project. There is no A/C or heating on this vehicle. You will see that the taillights need replacing. I have the shells.

This is an AZ vehicle, so when considering rust, it’s in good shape. The passenger side footbed could use some work, but it’s not terrible. The bed has some rust that could use cleaning up. Body damage includes driver side quarter panel, both side endcaps (I have new ones ready to go).

Small things that could use attention are the window cranks (fully functional, just need cleaning and greasing), hood release, etc. It all works, just needs TLC. The interior definitely needs an overhaul. The battery placement isn’t great, and that would be one of the first changes I would make. We have it using a group 31 battery for now.

You will also receive any spare parts I have, to include the center console, bench seat, and endcaps.

1980 was the last year of production for this vehicle. To my knowledge, 4000 Scout II’s were produced that year-only a portion of those were Travelers (long wheelbase with fiberglass top). An even smaller portion were diesel! This was one of the first turbo charged diesel options provided by manufacturers.

It’s a great motor, but given the era, produces 101 HP and 130# of torque stock. I’m sure this build is pushing a little more, but I haven’t pushed it very hard. I do know it’s capable of much more if properly cooled and maintained. I am selling because I have my first child on the way and I just don’t seem to have the time to give it the attention it deserves. The hard part is over-it’s accessory wiring, fluid and seal changes, and interior overhaul and you’re good to go! Honestly, the rebuilt motor is fantastic and the engine runs like a dream.

Here is a video of it running and driving, filmed Jan 24th: https://youtu.be/bKLs1HHiPQU

I am asking $14,000 or best offer.
