Seller’s Description: 1980 Rolls Royce Silver Wraith II
Between 1975 and 1980 there were roughly 2000 Silver Wraith II’s manufactured. In essence, each one was custom hand built, making it difficult to find two that are the same.
This particular Wraith may have some musical ghosts that accompany her.
This particular Silver Wraith II was built specifically for music mogul and 90’s boy band boss, Lou Pearlman Although, in 1980, Pearlman was running a helicopter taxi business & leasing blimps to companies like Jordache, McDonalds and Metlife. Word is he was already starting up in his career as a fraudster as well. That is how he was able to afford a $120,000 custom built car when the median household income was about $20,000 a year. That would be a half million dollar car today.
Pearlman is most widely known for creating and producing the Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, O-Town, Innosence, Aaron Carter, Justin Timberlake and others in that genre in the mid 90’s. Unfortunately for him, that empire came crashing in when he was arrested in the early 2000’a for fraud, running a Ponzi scheme and suffered several lawsuits from most of his clients. He died in prison in 2016 at the age of 62. Most of his possessions were auctioned off when he went to prison. Somehow this car made it into the hands of his niece, who has owned it since and just over a year ago she sold it to the current owner, making this really a two/three owner car.
Other than some routine maintenance, he added a flat screen and amps/sub woofer (all of which may be removed if desired and the installation did not affect the dash bpard).
This particular Wraith II has 57,000 miles on her and starts up and runs great. She drives well and everything works as it should, although in some cases a little slower than it did in 1980, like the power windows and power seats. This one has a two tone paint job with dark burgundy lowers and dark cardinal red uppers and a light tan Everflex vinyl roof. The leather interior matches the roof color and has burgundy colored piping to accent it. There are some small cracks in the paint (this is 80’s lacquer) and a scratch or two. She presents very well though.
Burl-wood accentuates the Jaeger and VDO gauges and chrome switches. The AC blows cold but I feel it could be colder, the heat works, the wipers work, all the lights (interior and exterior) work, the horn does not work, the gauges operate correctly even the outside air temp and clock. There are burl wood accented mirrors in the back and separate foot rests for each seat.
The interior’s letdown is the driver seat with a couple of cracks and some bolster wear (Lou was a big guy). A weekend with some Color Plus leather fix and dye would bring this interior back up to 80’s snuff. The 80’s era cellular phone hard mounted to the center console does not power up (it may be disconnected).
Under the hood a 6.7 L V8 with 189 HP does the work. It runs through a GM sourced TH400 3 speed auto trans out to a limited slip rear diff. The self leveling suspension works correctly and the ride is what one would expect from a Rolls Royce. This car isn’t going to win any drag races but she will cruise along all day at 80MPH and you won’t feel a thing.
If you’re looking for a unique, luxury cruiser, to take out to cars n coffee or British car shows with some music industry provenance and a really cool back story, this is the one to have.
