Seller’s Description: 1981 Formula Ford PRS RH-01 Club Racer

In 2000 a friend of the owner convinced him to take his Formula Vee out for a run up at Lime Rock Park. Being a British sports car nut for most of his life, this seemed like a natural extension. He soon purchased hi own, a Zink Super Vee, that he started racing. In 2002 he crashed the Zink and purchased this 1981 Formula Ford PRS club racer and immediately started running throughout New England – Lime Rock Park, Watkins Glenn, Pocono, NHIS, etc. He raced this car until 2005 when his work travel schedule made it too difficult to get to races. The car was parked in his garage. He’d fire it up and drive it out of the garage every now and then, but this car hasn’t been driven in anger since the end of the 2005 season.

This would be a great car to run in SCCA club events and historic events throughout New England, as Lime Rock, Thompson, Watkins Glenn and Palmer all host Historic Festivals.

Many tracks across the country do, so this car could be run anywhere.

While I’m into Formula 1 and other sorts of racing, I’m a spectator and not a mechanic, so forgive me for not being 100% on some of the construction of this little beauty.

The engine is a Ford 1600 4 cylinder running a header, it’s connected to a Hewland Engineering transaxle, with inboard Lockheed disc brakes, suspended with Penske coilovers.

Up front is the same, all bits fully adjustable.

A custom aluminum radiator keeps the engine cool, a Morcal remote filter mount keeps the oil clean and 2 BBL Weber downdraft carb feeds the fuel. Bosch ignition puts fire to the fuel.

There are two sets of Compomotive aluminum wheels in 5.5×13 and coded as FF Only.

The Willans belts are expired, 2006, and a RaceTech wheel and gauges assist in keeping her on the track.

It passed inspection at his last race in 2005 and was not ever crashed.

The frame is in excellent shape as is the fiberglass body.

The engine turns easily by hand but one of the freeze plugs has blown out.

The engine would want to be rebuilt anyway (along with the other systems) before ever taking her out on the track.

There is a small bin of parts and all the records and receipts come with her.

Asking price on her is $5000.
