Seller’s Description: This 1992 Mercedes-Benz 300D 2.5 Turbo Diesel is a prime candidate for a little TLC to produce a nice restoration and rare 2.5Litre 5 Cylinder Turbo Diesel W124 made for the Highway with great MPG or just around town.
Finished in Black (040) over Grey MB-Tex (178), this W124 is powered by a 2.5L OM602 5 Cylinder Turbo Diesel is paired to a four-speed automatic transmission. Features include cruise control, air conditioning, a sliding sunroof, and a factory Becker head unit with a trunk mounted JVC CD Changer and full size spare. Recent service includes an oil service, AC recharge, and new Battery with 3 Year Warranty.
The four-spoke steering wheel frames a 140-mph analog speedometer, 6k-rpm tachymeter, and an analog odometer with showing 136k miles. Additional gauges include fuel level and coolant temperature, along with an analog clock. Instrument cluster is partially operational.
The cars exterior and interior is good condition and the car comes with manufacturer’s literature, a JVC Trunk mounted CD Changer, original Becker Head Unit and a clean Carfax report (sent upon request) with a clean California Title, Current California License Plates with Tags good until July 2024 (removed for photos). This car is SMOG exempt in CA with tags good until July 2024. Never have to SMOG it in CA.
The car will require some TLC as it does have a few issues:
A major Tune Up will be needed with attention to injectors that need to be adjusted and dialed in.
Needs new flex discs and a center drive shaft support.
Shift bushings should be replaced.
Motor and Trans Mounts need replacement.
Front brake pads due soon.
Exhaust hangers beginning to show wear.
Tachymeter and Odometer recently stopped working (have quote from speedo shop to fix – $200)

• 2.5L OM602 Turbo Diesel
The 2.5-liter OM602 five-cylinder Turbo Diesel was rated at 121 horsepower and 165 lb-ft of torque when new. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission.
This OM602 diesel has mechanical injection, no electrical gremlins to go wrong. Robust and very strong. The tachymeter stopped working recently and it could either be the gauge itself, or possibly the speed sensor at the flywheel, assuming all wires are connected on the back of the cluster.
A clean Carfax report accompanies the car showing NO accidents or damage and registration history in Virginia, Florida and California. A mileage discrepancy is noted in 2009 showing a 2k-mile reading difference from the prior entry. This in all likelihood was a clerical error.
These cars are going to be collectors items in the near future and this model is one of the more rare ones with the 2.5 Litre Turbo Diesel OM 602 Motor that produced a lot of torque and is a strong Highway runner or for just around town.
I have owned a few of these and the intent was to restore it but I simply do not have the time or the space to do it.
I have to part with it and hope it goes to a Mercedes Benz savvy person who has the know how to bring it back to its original glory.
