Seller’s Description: 2012 8500 mile, McLaren MP4-12C
The successor to the well taken F1, the 12C was designed from the get go to be a well behaved road car, albeit still a super car.
The 3.8L twin turbo V8 putting out nearly 600 HP, through a dizzying array of electronics and computer gadgetry, all set to allow the driver to either settle in and let the car do most of the work or to turn a couple dials and have no traction control, different aero and modified shift points.
Where to begin.
I guess the first is no door handles, simply glide your hand outwards in the area where a door handle might be and “pop”, the door opens up and all you do is lift.
This car has been equipped with the “soft open” option.
Slide your way down and into the leather and alcantara sport seats (in this case in a rarely seen combination of red and black in a pearl white car), swing the door down and you’re in a cockpit of a jet fighter. Shift handles and computer controllers at your fingertips and to your right, a series of buttons to start the car and choose your aero and traction poison.
The touch screen will give you music and navigation, the computer screen set just to the left, behind the wheel. Climate control is handled per person, on their respective doors, with both screens having been replaced recently.
The current owners have had her since 2014, with two previous title holders being dealerships in Florida. She came to NY and spent just a couple of weeks in that ownership before landing in her long term home for the last 10. Current owners have put about 3000 miles on her and have every receipt of all services performed at Miller Motorcars, the most recent just a couple of weeks ago. The car has a total just 8314 miles.
Services that have been on her recently include replacing the tires in 2018, along with the standard yearly service the perimeter seal and crank seal were replaced as they had begun weeping a little, the taillights were replaced due to condensation in them, recalls were all handled and the coolant was flushed.
In 2020 the standard service was completed, the TPMS sensors were replaced and the soft close door mechanisms were installed.
2022 standard service was performed, the battery tested and found in excellent health and the VEE module was replaced.
Just recently in Sept. 2024 the standard service was performed and all systems checked and all features were found to be working correctly.
Now that you’ve found yourself cradled in behind the wheel, step on the brake, press the start button and let her cycle through her checks, about a second or two, keep on the brake and press the start button again and she immediately fires up and quickly settles into a burbling idle. Not obnoxious, not shrill, just a smooth twin turbo V8. Once she warms, stab the gas and she revs instantly but again not obnoxiously.
Press the brake, tap the right paddle and she’s in first gear and with no effort, she’s now rolling along. Out onto the road and touch 2nd and stab the gas, the car rockets forward with just about a “G” worth of acceleration, keep pulling that right paddle to shift up through the 7 speed, dual clutch “automatic”. Of course, all the computerized execution won’t let you over-rev her, it’ll shift for you if you don’t. 120 MPH comes fast, in about 8 seconds. Steering is super sharp (electric powered rack and pinion) and the 4 piston, cast iron McLaren brakes (and the rear wing aero brake) bring her to a stop from 100 mph in just about 120 feet. To assist in her razor sharp handling is the Proactive Chassis Control, which is a combination of anti-lock brake and suspension control to keep her planted. With all the computer assist turned off, you can get her sideways and drifting.
The 12C can be as wild or tame as you’d like, either way, she’s easy and very fun to drive.
Her overall condition is immaculate. With just over 8000 miles, there are no chips or any other issues anywhere in the paint, even the obligatory scrapes on the chin are absent. There are a couple on the under-tray, but only visible if you’re laying down on your back trying to wedge your face under the front of the car. Everything else on the car is like new.
Very well maintained, lightly driven, this car is absolutely ready for her new owner to take her out for exhilarating drives.
