When we last saw this Ford Cortina GT, it had just come out of a barn in Alabama. It was dusty, full of debris and there wasn’t any word on the condition of the engine. Well, reader Billy S took a risk and bought it. After getting it home, cleaned up and a tune-up, he was able to get the engine running and even drove the car. That was back in 2016 and he just hasn’t had time to do much more to it. Rather than let it sit and deteriorate, he’s decided to let it go! It’s located in Commerce, Georgia and he’s asking $3,500. If you’d like to have it, you can contact him via the form below!
Asking Price: $3,500
Location: Commerce, Georgia
Title Status: Clean
Seller’s Description: Very rare 1969 Cortina GT. This car was originally listed on Barn Find 2 years ago. The car was pulled from a barn in Alabama after sitting for almost 36 years. No title, just a bill of sale.
Body Condition: The floors, trunk, and engine back are solid! One small spot of rust behind the passenger side back wheel. The spot is not completely rusted through. The front valence was torn when the vehicle was pulled from the barn. Original wood grain dash. The gas tank was replaced with a racing tank.
Mechanical Condition: The engine cranks and runs. It’s the original engine with factory tube header and exhaust. The shifter is a little loose but goes through all gears.
It’s going to need work and the missing title is an issue, but this still could be a great project to take on. Depending on where you live, getting a title could be a challenge, but not impossible. Given the racing heritage of the Cortina, it could also be built into a vintage race car and then a title wouldn’t be needed. Let’s just hope the next owner is able to do something with it!
If you have a classic vehicle you would like to sell, you can list it with us here on Barn Finds!

Not much interest in ’69 for these, and not much has changed. My old man had a car like this, only a ’68 and not a GT. That car was bad luck from the get go.He bought it stuffed hard in the right door, had it fixed, we took it to school one day, some punk in his old man’s Buick, wiped out 4 parked cars, including the Cortina. I remember, it was a pretty lackluster car. There simply can’t be more than a handful around. If I remember, the GT had a fancier interior, and did quite well in racing.
These cars are so easily hopped up, both engine and suspension. The Kent four-banger can be made to produce a surprising amount of reliable power from a small OHV engine.
There are plenty of parts available, globally, for what was a rally and race winner.
I think it’s priced well, too.
Better yet, build a Jeff Uren tribute, dump in a V-6, and get some Savage emblems!

That’s a new one I’ve never heard of, a Savage Cortina. I like it! Then again put Cosmic wheels on a car and I’l just about like anything. :)
I’ve got a set of 13 X 5 1/2″ Cosmics (refurbed) to go on a BMW 700 Coupe when it’s done, but I really want a 7″ wide set to go on my ’66 Monza coupe, and they only com 5 1/2″ wide these days. I like the Dunlop wheels, too, but they never made it to the States? Cosmics fit enough MGs, they were popular for a while.
I think this has awesome potential, and the price is below what I would expect. If I were between projects, this might be my next one.
Don’t need another one sadly.I have 2 GT’s.This is a very nice example at a fair price.Best of luck to the seller and next care taker. Please join the Cortina list next buyer.
I think this is a fair price. I sold a 69 non GT for more a few years ago in similar condition. (It was also featured here on barn finds)
Might be a twink, but here’s what you can do with a Ford 1600.

Ok, if that’s a “British Saloon Car Championship”, why does that oddly look like a Camaro that leads much of the race???

That is pretty sweet but how do you get Murry Walker to narrate your driving life? :P Escorts don’t share much on the chassis side of things and the racing Escorts had either Lotus Twin Cams or later Cosworth BDA/BBD. There were Escort street cars built with the Kent of course, in fact I’d guess most of them were built that way.
This car is very popular in Europe, not many original GT’s sold. It was an expencive Cortina those days. Many big Ford clubs in Scandinavia,Norway,Sweden,Denmark. Maybe it would be smarter to list it there? Nice car !
I had one of these in High School. What a blast to drive. Never found a transmission that shifted so smoothly, had a 2 bbbl weber and factory headers on the crossflow version of the Kent 1600. That car was so tossable, you just threw it into a turn and let it slide around with full control. One of the best cars I’ve ever owned.
NO pics of the interior or engine bay?????
That may help sell the car………………….

My folks had a ’69 Cortina wagon. My mom used it to deliver newspapers for a year or so before my dad traded it in for a ’71 Datsun wagon, which was a much better car.
Had a new ’69 non GT back in the day and it was a blast to drive and drive it I did! Made many trips to Tulsa from Chanute AFB back then. Would run that thing at 80mph for 9 or 10 hours straight. Sold it in ’72 and bought a 1971 red Alpha Spyder. Good times!
THIS IS A MATE TO THE ONE I BOUGHT NEW! I just bought a 66 mustang or i would JUMP on this in a heart beat!! i thinking a 5.0 would do nicely!
I had one of these, but thinking it might have been earlier than 69, as it had a generator rather than alternator. The wood trim dash and accents were superb and classy…which I was totally enamored with. Don’t really remember why I sold it. Traded for a Chevy Caprice with anemic 307ci motor…sigh!
