EXCLUSIVE: 1980 Porsche 924

Update 2/18/2019 – Tom was able to spend some time working on his Porsche and discovered the fuel pump is failed, so he has dropped his asking to $1,500!

From 2/9/2019 – Reader Tom H purchased this Porsche 924 with plans of reviving it one day, but he needs to let it go. When he originally found it, it was out in a field and had been invaded by mice. Unfortunately, that means there are electrical issues that will need to be sorted to get it running again. Thankfully, interest in these Porsches has been on the rise, so values have been climbing and parts are becoming more readily available. It needs work, but this could be a fun project to take on. If you’re interested in owning it, you can find it in Shoshoni, Wyoming and you can message Tom via the form below!

Asking Price: $1,500
Location: Shoshoni, Wyoming
Mileage: 130,000
Title Status: Clean

Seller’s Description: This is a project because of the condition of the paint and the fact that there are electrical issues. Mice ate some of the wires under the hood and a human pulled more out of the dash trying to fix it. It turns over by hand and ran when parked. Will need an automotive electrician and fuel pump, starter, battery etc. The usual things for resurrecting a car that has been sitting. I bought it as a project, but times are tough. Gotta pay the bills.

Body Condition: Body is straight with no damage, but the paint is falling off the hood. The whole car will probably need fresh paint to really look good.

Mechanical Condition: Mechanical condition is unknown, but the previous owner drove it to the spot I found it in 2012 and the fuel pump failed while sitting so she abandoned the project. I included pics of the hood deterioration. It should all grind out just fine. Lots of mice damage, including spark plug wires. Otherwise, it’s a solid project.

The paint actually doesn’t look that bad on most of the car and we don’t see any serious rust. Electrical issues tend to scare most of us, but complete wiring harnesses are available for these and aren’t all that expensive. The interior is going to need a serious cleaning and you may want to replace the carpet and insulation. If all it needs to get it running is electrical work and the typical service, this could prove to be a fun project. So, be sure to message Tom with any questions or your best offer via the form below!

I didn’t really know how to price this, so I’m flexible. Just hit me with an offer via the message form if it looks like a project you are interested in, please.

These are far better cars to drive than you might expect. They do not have the engine power yet but the brakes and suspension are wonderful and they are great touring cars for two. I have too many projects right now but this is so tempting.

I don’t mean to be insulting, but $2900, or even any amount with 4 digits had better have a decimal point in there somewhere other than at the end!

I have seen them on Ebay Motors from $3000 to $20,000 and never have I seen one in any condition for less than $2000. Might seem like 3 digit junk to you, but that’s the beauty of it. All y’all can put it down, but then someone will give me what I’m asking. Same thing happened with the last truck I put on here. A bunch of comments that it was worth nothing, then 10 days later some guy called and gave me asking price and sent the money on Venmo sight unseen. He just wanted it and I don’t think the price was even an issue.

Elliot Grafton in GA has a field full of these, some better, some worse. This asking price is optimistic!

Oh another one of those projects where the owner got wiser after buying some unfortunate project. If it were a 944 or a 944 turbo i could see where it could be feasible. But a 924 is not just unpopular , but is never going to be worth the investment it takes to make it sellable.
Another back yard flipper got a taste of reality from yhe ‘euro quick money’ dream.
